I love finding various structures in the wilderness. Caves, peaks, lookouts, mines, bridges, ghost towns (Lions & Tigers & Bears...oh my!). The northwest has a vast amount of historical areas and structures to discover and explore on your own.

When you get down to it, there’s a whole lot of #geology going on here. -
From the #iron#ore to make the rails; the quartz-feldspar-biotite #gneiss that is the bed for the #tracks; the limestone to make concrete for the #sleepers; to the flat stretch of country through which these tracks run. Yes, flat country has its own geological history. Might be millions of years of erosion. Might be the emergence of a once submerged sea floor... The geology of that flat land underpins the soil types on which the crops are grown. And on it goes.
