Canada must ensure the quality of its marine refuges, not simply the quantity.
A new @seabluecanada report shows Canada’s marine refuges don’t meet international standards. These areas still count toward the government’s goal of protecting 10% of marine areas.
Canada has protected 7.9% of its marine and coastal areas, well on the way to the 10% target by 2020. Canadians expect protected areas to prohibit industrial activities, yet many protected sites remain open to oil and gas exploration.
There’s a long way to go, but we see a path forward for stronger protections allowing Canada to meet international standards and earn a position of leadership in ocean protection. 📷 - Wild Wonders of Europe / Orsolya Haarberg / WWF (puffin) camera 📷- Patrick R. I've never seen so many starfishes, there where thousands of them. They actually move quicker than you'd expect them to and like to rest on your body. They feel like sandpaper and are truly fascinating animals, cool stuff!

If you have not read this book,
‘How to catch a star’ by Oliver Jeffers, you may not want to slide down to the third picture. -
This beautiful children’s book has inspired us to do an observational drawing of starfish and various seashells!
Before we get to our NAMU artists’ amazing drawings, aren’t these sea creatures beautiful?
우리 아이들과 ‘How to catch a star’라는 책을 읽고 불가사리와 여러가지 조개류를 관찰하고 그려보았어요. 이 신기하게 생긴 바닷속 친구들, 신비한 탓인지 여러 디자이너, 아티스트들에게 많은 영감을 주었는데요, 한국 사람 이라면 많은 먹거리들이 생각나기도 하지요..😅

The Panamic Cushion Star ⭐️ (Pentaceraster cumingi) is a gorgeous sea star which has sadly meant that it is often commercially fished and sold for ornamentation. In Peru the populations have dropped so much that it is considered near extinction. Why do humans always have to be so greedy? 😭🤔This beauty belongs in the ocean and should be left there! 💙📷 @carlos_mallo
