Kitchens sell homes! But the opposite is also true, kitchens keep homes from selling. And sometimes it isn’t the kitchen itself, but the clutter in the kitchen that keep a home from selling.
Buyers want to feel that counter tops are spacious, and your coffee maker, toaster and utensils get in the way of that. The very first thing you should do when staging your home to sell is clear off your counters!
If you need to have an appliance handy for daily use that is fine! When our house was on the market we would just put the things on the counter down into a cabinet before we left the house. Most potential buyers don’t look inside cabinets when house hunting, and if they do, they understand that your coffee maker isn’t always stored on top of your plates. And they don’t mind because the kitchen is open and airy, so they can imagine their coffee maker sitting on the counter.
