Every GOSO participant completes a two-week job readiness curriculum, which provides skills and guidance on how to be successful in the workforce. One important step in the job search process that is often overlooked, is ensuring we’re putting our best foot forward on social media.
That’s where BrandYourself comes in! BrandYourself has created a software that allows people to clean up their social media and build an impressive online presence.
A group of their team members worked with our participants to go through and clean out anything on their social media profiles that might raise a red flag to prospective employers. They also helped participants create LinkedIn profiles, which is a way to build a positive online presence. Our participants now feel confident knowing that their social media isn’t holding them back, it’s supporting them in their professional goals! #gosonyc

The showcase was a year in the making. As De-jon, Tim, Kevin and their 9 fellow performers took the stage for the GOSO Arts Showcase, the packed theater was spellbound. The audience watched as GOSO clients performed original acts depicting moments many had experienced in their own lives, such as applying for a job and being asked to explain their past time in the justice system.
Emotional Well-Being is one of GOSO’s Three Es (the others being Employment and Education) and the Arts Showcase is a valuable and empowering outlet for expressing the challenges and obstacles faced as our clients navigate the world post-Rikers. #gosonyc#gosoarts

What’s it like to intern for the Madison Square Park Conservancy? We asked Jyquone and Herbie, two GOSO participants; they answered!
Jyquone: I find it really rewarding to just fix things. Since having the internship here, I feel like I’ve already boosted my skills. I knew a bit about technical projects before, but can tell I’m learning a lot of new things.
Herbie: There is so much history here in the park. I love the opportunity to learn more about it and all that goes into creating and maintaining a public space.
The team at Madison Square Park Conservancy have been impressed with Jyquone and Herbie’s enthusiasm and drive! Speaking with Ryu Kim, Madison Square Park Conservancy’s Operations Assistant: “Herbie has excellent communication skills and he is friendly and welcoming to the park’s guests. We know he is always a great representative for the park because he has such a positive attitude. Jyquone has really advanced a lot of his technical skills, and the projects he works on all have a consistently high-quality outcome. He takes a logical approach in his work and is a true team-player.” #gosonyc#gosoworks

Re-entry is tough.
Trying to get back to routine, while fighting the “routine-ness” of it.
Trying to process the 3 nights and 2 days of passionate teaching and worship while trying to translate it into my regular life.
We were warned we were heading into the wilderness by @robertmadu and it’s so easy to fall back into the ordinary ways.
But we were made for more than ordinary. So as I travel through the wilderness, facing hunger, temptations, and deceit, my lamp will burn bright and steady. I will continue to worship as taught by @darlenezschech Continue to be in Thanksgiving. Continue to feast on His manna, His Word, oil for my lamp.
One with the Father. One with the Son. Consumed by the Spirit.
I am loved.
I am a child of God.
And He is pleased with me.
🔎Job Alert🔍The CCF team is growing! We’re looking for a strong, motivated associate director to lead our Career Advancement Program. The right candidate will have a passion for education and criminal justice reform, and some experience creating/implementing programs related to reentry. Bonus if you’ve done graduate studies in counseling or have worked in higher education career services. Want to learn more? Link in bio!
Lead a focus group on entrepreneurial readiness of returning citizens and I followed their lead on what’s needed to equip this community of founders and business owners (Spoiler alert: funding, support, and less talk/picking their brains!).
It also gave me a chance once again to do introductions “GraySide Style”:
~Pair off by 2s
~Learn about your partner (Name, hometown, education, family, hobbies)
~Find at least 3 things in common
~Take notes/remember because you’ll be introducing your partner
—>Gets people talking and engaging right away
—>Creates empathy (you have to intro someone else)
—>Levels the room so despite extro/introvert styles, everyone is coming from the same starting point by doing intros the same way
—>Reminds us that you can ALWAYS find something in common with someone else, even if at first you seem different.
Next time at your meeting or event, try doing your intros “GraySide Style” 💪🏾
FRIENDS! As some of you know, I'm on the Action Board of an incredible organization called Getting Out and Staying Out, Inc. - GOSO.
@gosonyc is an anti-recidivism organization based in East Harlem that serves justice-involved young men in attaining employment, education, and emotional well-being. In fact, fewer than 15% of GOSO participants return to jail, as compared to a national average of 67% for the age group.
This April, GOSO is celebrating its 15th anniversary of redefining reentry at its annual gala at Pier 60 in Chelsea. I would SO appreciate your help in supporting GOSO by donating to their cause or attending the gala on April 4th: www.gosonyc.org/gala.
*when you purchase a ticket or make a donation please make sure you include my name in the referral section!
Thanks, and see you there! ❤️
The only multigrain bread I will ever eat. ❤❤
Not only is it organic & delicious, it supports a movement that is near and dear to my heart; re-entry.
Thank you @daveskillerbread for helping those who deserve a second chance at life. 👏👏👏 More info on the project listed below.
Via the Second Chance website: (secondchanceproject.com) "Prisoner to manager. Inmate to leader. It can happen, and it starts with a second chance. For the one in four U.S. adults who have been arrested, convicted, or incarcerated, the likelihood they’ll be called back or offered a job is reduced by nearly 50 percent. Without a stable job, people often return to crime and end up back in prison in a bitter cycle otherwise known as recidivism.
That’s why we at Dave's Killer Bread created the Second Chance Project: to challenge perceptions about hiring people with criminal backgrounds who are ready change their lives for the better.
Second Chance Employment isn’t a new idea for us; it’s been baked into our DNA for more than a decade. One in three of our Oregon bakery employee-partners has a criminal history. They hold positions ranging from entry level jobs to management roles responsible for critical bakery operations. Their success inspired us to raise awareness beyond our bakery walls and invite your participation.
Second Chance Employment changes lives. Get involved.
The Second Chance Project website was built by talented incarcerated individuals within San Quentin State Prison under the leadership of The Last Mile, a nonprofit working to prepare incarcerated individuals for re-entry."
Chyrel and I had a chance to sit down with this guy last week and talk about some of our goals and visions as BRIC co-leaders, and his goals and visions as the Director of MT's Department of Corrections. .
The Billings Re-entry Initiative Coalition is a newly formed group of community members and professionals who share a common vision to reduce recidivism and create a safer community by helping exoffenders succeed.
My passion in life is helping others (who knew!), and I've been blessed beyond measure to be able to do this in so many different ways, BRIC being the latest and maybe greatest...here's why 👇👇👇 .
Two decades ago I was sitting in a jail cell waiting to start a 40 year sentence. No that's not a typo. Today I'm a successful professional, mom, grandma, mentor, entrepreneur, and co-leader of a reentry coalition. .
Two decades ago I was lost, broken, and lost everything that mattered to me. Today God has saved me, blessed me, and given me so much more than what I lost. And every single day I get to pay that forward. .
Don't give up on life. Don't give up on yourself. Talk to God. Follow Jesus. The hardest lessons in life produce the most growth. Always pay it forward. ❤
✈️ STINT 끝!
I’ve reached the end of my STINT period.
My goal while in Japan was to share God’s love to Japan, but instead I’ve received His love more than I have given.
Through my STINT year, I could feel how God was and still is working in this country and city. It was also an opportunity to learn how God’s love is great for Japan and myself.
I was able to create a much deeper relationship with God in Japan, because I felt that I couldn’t do anything without our heavenly Father.
Perhaps it was because it was difficult to find visible evidence of achievements from the missions I did in Japan.
But, through this I could feel God’s working in people’s heart invisibly but strongly and faithfully.
During my STINT year, what I felt was that God is continually faithful and righteous.
In His own time, Japan will be transformed into his kingdom. Thank you for all supporters and all friends See you at his kingdom but keep in touch ^^ .
There is a Word swirling around in my spirit that I hope to release soon! It’s taken from the life of Joseph, through the book of Genesis, starting at chapter 37 and verse 19! .
My friend from High School @therealkasino founder of @ynotu2_inc is one of many, perfect illustrations of the life of Joseph! .
Dreamer, even if you don’t know what your dream means, or the path you will have to take to fulfill it, just know that you will get where you are meant to go, NO MATTER WHAT! .
No one understands the path(s) you take, neither do you at times but just stay encouraged knowing that God’s plan is PERFECT and no pain, detour or setback will be wasted! .
Congratulations my friend! Continue to let God use you! The road you traveled I’m sure wasn’t/isn’t easy but for the lives your impacting...it sure was worth it! .

#ToughTalkTuesday : Re-Entry Chronicle - I got my copy! Now, you need to get yours 🙌🏾
The Re-Entry Chronicle (@reentrychron) has officially launched is coming to a New York town near you! This publication founded by justice champion, Jen Lackard (@jenlackard), is "New York's ONLY publication dedicated to relevant news, resources and opportunities impacting justice-involved persons and their families." ________
This monthly newspaper's mission is to make the transition for New Yorkers reentering the community smoother. "ReEntryChron features over 16 sections focused on the sociopolitical and economic landscape of re-entry across an initial geographic footprint of 14-counties, comprising downstate New York. In addition assisting those seeking resources, it also provides information for those looking to stay up-to-date on changes taking place in the justice world.
Lackard is also the founder of "Race 4 Re-Entry" (@race4reentry); "Race for Re-Entry was conceived as a response to both the disproportionate impact of mass incarceration in the borough, with over 15,000 arrests in Bronx county each year, and its consistent (now eight consecutive years) rating as New York’ State’s unhealthiest county. R4R, which successfully debuted in the Spring of 2017, is New York City’s only grassroots, multi-platform collective centered on re-entry and the mission of co-creating safe, healthy and inclusive communities. Two years ago Terry Brown walked into St Louis Wing Company for a job interview after just being released from serving 12 years in Federal Prison. With a non-violent offense on his record and his past behind him, Terry was determined to make a new life for himself. With eye contact, he assured me that he wanted nothing more than to live a normal life with attainable goals. Hiring him on the spot was one of the best decisions I've made in my career. Terry has excelled as a team member, exceeded expectations and has demonstrated leadership at every turn. We are proud to announce Terry Brown's transition into management! Please welcome Terry as the new Kitchen Manager at St Louis Wing Company! Congrats T! #BeLikeTerryBrown#Success#Reentry#ChefLife#ChefBobbyT
