For Irish Historians and Genealogists the mythological ancient Irish story the "Táin Bó Cúailnge" (shorten as Táin) is essentally an ancient story written down in the "Yellow Book of Lecan" - The manuscript written on vellum and contains 344 columns of text. The first 289 were written by 1391 ad, the remainder were written by 1401 ad. It is written in Middle Irish. The problem is are these not real events? or people? or are they? The language of the sources is written in Early/Old Irish as used in last century BC and up to 2/3rd centuries ad. The language of the sources actually dates the story. Rath Croghan a magnificent collection of ancient sites is one of the most important in Ireland. Rath Croghan is directly linked to the story. For in Rath Croghan is the "Oweynagat - The Cave of the Cats" - which is the entrance to the Otherworld. This cave contains an ogham (Runic Irish/latin) inscription in primitive Irish reading VRACCI MAQI MEDVVI, (the cave) of Fráech son of Medb. Fráech was a warrior of Queen Medb who was the central figure in the whole Saga. Cúchulainn her nemesis killed Fráech in single combat. The whole saga centres around two bulls, it contains sex, jealousy, betrayal, sadness, epic war. In one climatic epic scene as the men of Ulster do battle with the forces of Connacht, the Morrigan (Celtic Goddess of Strife and War) does her dance, for she lives in the Oweynagat - The Cave of the Cats. She urges the combatants to kill. So is this saga real? well if you separate the mortal from the immortal you basically get a war over cattle. Cattle raiding was a bloody Irish past time for thousands of years. But what it does reveal is pagan belief's from our ancient irish past and as such it is priceless. It defines our history, beliefs, surnames, it is in our spiritual DNA. If you go to Rath Croghan or Oweynagat you are entering the places associated with this story. These sites come to life for they have deep spiritual meaning for the Irish. #irishgenealogy#fáilteireland#opw#austinrocktourguide#irishheritage#storyteller#austinrockgenealogist#tourplanner#reconnectirishroots

It is with profound sadness that we lost Farai Sibanda from a car accident on Saturday that claimed his life after fighting for a week in hospital. Together with his wife Kayise Ngqula were both in the accident....@kayise_ngqula is a member of the #OPW family. I have had the absolute pleasure to work with this gentle soul on Our Perfect Wedding. She is still in hospital. I’ve spoken to her mother and she thanks you for your prayers, your messages and phone calls of support. Please continue to lift the entire family and their son in prayer. Lala kakuhle Farai. Phumla. 💔
