Never get upset about growing older.. It is a privilege denied to many.
Part of me wishes I was running 36 birthday miles today, but instead I’m gonna be lazy and wear sweatpants and my favorite hoodie. (Which isn’t too different from any other day of the week). Gonna just enjoy being alive another year! ❤️

As I have my morning cup of coffee and think about this weekends race, the @triple_lakes_trail_race 40K that has now become a trail marathon, due to some last minute changes as the trails were affected by the hurricanes, I find myself a bit in disbelief. I wonder how in the world I could possibly think that I could run a marathon in the woods. 🤷🏼♀️
Then I remember I have spent the entire summer in the woods. 🌲
I have ran more miles per month than ever before. 📆
I have pushed my body to great heights ⛰
I have put in the training. I’m equipped for this event. I will go out and have an amazing time and I can not wait to share this next big adventure!! 🗺

I never gave Grand Teton the post it really deserved. .
August 21, 2017: It was the day of “The Great American Eclipse” and I had just finished a backpacking trip in Yellowstone. We were driving south on our way home. I barely knew it, as I had taken some anti-histimine (I ended up trucking through something I must have been allergic to) and promptly passed out in the car. .
The car stopped at a pull out. Ahead, the Tetons overlooked Jackson Lake, partially obscured by wildfire smoke. It was my first time seeing the Tetons, and I was awestruck. I vowed it wouldn’t be my last. .
This July, I went back. I had made it my goal to run the Teton Crest Trail. The trail makes its way through the range via a canyon south of these peaks (Middle Teton, Grand Teton, Mt. Owen, Teewinot) pictured here. From there, you head north, traversing along the other side of the mountains for 15 miles until you finally claw your way out through another canyon. .
I did 90% of this alone. I had just one water bottle and a water filter, and some fuel and my phone. I made my way through the western edge of the park in solitude and, despite the rigors of running at over 10k feet for hours, absolute bliss. I can almost recall every step, at least it feels that way. .
I don’t know when I’ll ever go back.
Not if. When.

Chasing wild 🏃♀️"My mind is always overwhelmed with ideas and possibilities, a sense of busyness ever present in farming, 🌾 but quelled by running. The real reason for all of my brute effort, both in farming and running, is an attempt to satiate my desire to live deeply in our natural world, not as a bystander watching safely from a climate controlled environment." We’ve trekked for the past 13 days and we are only half way through our journey. Although my body is tired and sore, I am so excited to start the next leg of our trek... today we head into the forbidden kingdom of the Upper Mustang region... previously Tibet, the region is home to some of the worlds oldest monasteries, high mountain plateaus and caves.

Patience is a virtue and time is of the essence. And, somewhere in the middle, grace takes hold.
You 👏 can 👏 do 👏 hard 👏 things—8 days out from #cactusrose100 and this is our mantra. •
We have spent a year getting our bodies and minds ready for this, and it’s almost time to do the thing. Last minute good vibes, prayers, and words of wisdom are welcomed and appreciated 🏃♀️✌🏼🏃♀️ #nobadmiles#versolalto#throwbackthursday

With plenty of sunshine in the forecast, it’s #TimeToPlay this weekend! Where will your adventures take you?
My feed is full of runners and trail runners galore, triathletes living their Kona dreams, writers writing words and giving voice to their stories, homemade meals and so many 🍎 pies. . ////. I just spent a good half hour looking through my pictures to try to find something to post and I’ve got nothing. No 🍂 peeping, races, hay rides or pumpkins and definitely no home cooked meals. (I had cereal for dinner.) Lately, I’ve spent a lot of time in front of my computer writing not so interesting things. I’ve been swimming too but until I can figure out how to take 🏊🏼♀️ photos like @heatherrosescott, I won’t be sharing those. . ////. And that’s fine. I guess this is just my season to hunker down and do the unglamorous work of, well, work. And it’s ok to be silent. On the last day of @wilderrunning, we went on a silent run. There was something powerful about running in silence alongside a group of women under the canopy of trees and brush. Sometimes we need that silence to recharge and begin again. 📷 @jesssbarnard

A smile is a curve that sets everything straight.
Happy recovery miles this afternoon testing out these beat up legs of mine. To sum it all up, my heart is happy but my legs are still heavy 🤣. What do you do when you have DOMS? DOMS is delayed onset muscle soreness. It happens after a significant strenuous training session or possibly after a hard race. I don’t get it after every race and very rarely during training but boy oh boy did I get it after this weekend. I actually wasn’t very sore race day, it took about 24 hours for it to set in. This is typical of DOMS. In addition to muscle fatigue and soreness I had swelling in my legs (which lasted 2 days). As crazy as it sounds movement is really helpful. I walked a few miles Monday and Tuesday which helped, rode my spin bike Wednesday, and finally I ran 5k today. Other things that are super helpful for me are epsom salt baths, lots of water consumption, cryo or ice baths (ahem, my favorite), the sauna, rolling and my recovery boots. You don’t need to do them all but pick a few that sound reasonable to you. I’ve also been wearing super comfortable clothes and shoes which make me feel better 😂. My new Wave Knit Mizuno running shoes are absolutely dreamy; smooth ride, reactive, comfortable extra cushion for my tired legs and yet they are still light. Plus they are pretty 😍. I’ve been running in them for a few weeks now and they are my new favorite for recovery runs or long easy runs. I have the hardest time finding running shoes that work for me (high arch and narrow foot lady here) and I’m stoked to finally have another great pair of shoes that work with my feet 🙌🏼🙏🏼. Any-who.... I hope everyone has a night. Who has big plans for the weekend? Racing? Relaxing? Working? Pumpkin Patching? #ilovetorun#crazyshoelady#mizunorunning#WaveKnit

I’ve been running flat this past week trying to regain any speed I’ve ever had. There’s a season for everything and I’m ready for more running with less scramble. At least until summer when the mountain playground is endless! 📷 @missemmamarie_

#tbt to a time when I didn’t have to wear two pairs of pants and three jackets as a way of everyday life in the Himalayas🤣. (I can’t even remember a time before my constant state of marshmallow living right now, but apparently it existed). And yet my favourite part of this photo is that even when I’m trying to be “normal”, my legs are still covered with a colourful variety of scrapes and bruises, every one of them proudly earned. You just can’t take the mountains outta me, I guess. Nor would I ever want to.😋 📸 @christhornphoto👏
Well, I've had the past month off from work and it's been exactly what I needed. For the 16 years that I've been able to work, I've never taken that long of a continuous break. I didn't take it for a vacation necessarily. I took it because if I didn't, I would have likely had a nervous breakdown and done something stupid, like up and quit and start living in my car with two cats 🐈 🐈. I've always dealt with life as it's been handed to me. Sure theres been the sucky moments, but I had never felt so overwhelmed as I did a month ago. I'm proud of myself for doing what was right for me and taking the time I needed. I not only checked off all the boxes of things I felt I needed to handle in order to feel like a semi sane person again, but I was able to get out and do some fun things too...which is what I feel helped me get myself straight the most. Am I completely healed and feeling like myself again? No, not even close. But at least I know I did everything I could to try and get to that place in the time that I had. I'm officially back on Monday so this weekend is going to fly by in the blink in of an eye. I better make the best of it.

Happy Alaska Day! ▫️
This morning (before I realized it was Alaska Day) I happened to be browsing for 50Ks in AK. There's one not all that far from where this picture was taken. In February. I think I'm going to have to do it. ▫️
It occurred to me in today’s run that I have never done an “air guitar run selfie” (if that’s not actually a thing, it is now because I said it). So here it is.🤘🏻😆🤘🏻
In other news, today I had my new student orientation at my new school, and I start Monday at Cortiva Institute for massage therapy!
Sending a shoutout and much love to this guy @ultrarunnerjj 💕
He’s been injured since June and it has been rough. More so for him of course, but I will admit it is hard to go out the door and run everyday while leaving my favorite person sad at home.
He deserves major kudos sent out to him though. Because despite suffering from severe plantar fasciitis he has managed to stay super fit, if not make himself stronger in the process. He takes time out of his own day and schedule to coach me, and help me be stronger overall.
So... basically what I am saying is, thank you Justin. For striving to be your best self and teaching me the same principles. I know once this injury goes away you will come back stronger than ever and I can’t wait to see you out there once again crushing it. ✊
Happy to be back in Iowa for a bit. ☀️🌽
Tempo workout to wake up the travel legs. 1 up, 4 tempo, 1 down. Focused on doing what my body could do. Happy to report no stopping or breaks, and that I kept a good quick speed on this one! 🙌🏼 Huge improvement from past tempo workouts.
Happy humpday, you maniacs. What’s making you happy today? 😀

When married to @jonalbon your “holiday” may involve an ultra skyrace with close to 4000 meters of climb ⛰ Wouldn’t have it any other way 😘 Pretty pleased to complete @skyrunmadeira in one piece and put all those hours of mountain running to some good use 🐐 📷: Jose Freitas
An evening run from Base Camp at 11,300’. Ahhh, the high country! Only a place like this would make you want to go for a little jog after an 18 mile day of carrying in a big pack. The lightness was liberating! And the smoky setting sun added some romance that I found irresistible.

What big weekend adventures do you have planned?
After 2 ultra-weekends, I’m running some low key desert miles this weekend. I’m also rehabbing some tight spots, which means lots my fave combo of muscle rubs from @runnershighherbals 🌿 and living in @procompression socks (finally cool enough to wear my talls!!)

#teenytinytuesday Something I've learned from watching The Great British Baking Show is baking is a lot like running. One day you can be really good at it and the very next day you could be complete rubbish. But as long as you keep loving it, it's all worth it. Also, British people are insanely polite and us Americans look like giant assholes compared to them 😂 #SalomonSquad#TimeToPlay 📷: @tiarevincent (I need you to be my personal photographer and editor, I've never looked so cool against Colorado's landscapes than I have these past few days 😛)
