hainanese chicken set ($10.5) + iced lemon tea ($2.10)(left) and wofung iced lemon tea ($2.50)(right) | one of my go-tos in the aberdeen food court. wofung probably has the best bang for your buck in terms of having an iced lemon tea double the size of the other places, EXCEPT cafe d’lites tiny one was actually much better and not as watered down😅🤷🏻♀️ laksa was a no for me, but i do recommend their hainanese chicken! | ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ |
14/11 <— World Diabetes Day. The birthday of Frederick Banting, Canadian scientist who discovered that insulin was the wonderful magical substance to combat diabetes. Making this discovery in 1922, he went on to receive the Nobel Prize in medicine the following year.
I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus in June 1997. Telling a 9yr-old, living in a foreign country (was in Abu Dhabi at the time), that they now have a chronic illness which meant, in a nutshell, that they can't have as many sweet things as they did before, must've been tough. And even tougher for said 9yr-old to properly comprehend. Since then, i've evolved with this ilnness. I've taken some pretty bumpy routes along this journey. My teenage years weren't particularly smooth; hospital trips that could not have been, had i taken proper control at the time. Compromising my own short- & long-term health. I could go into detail, but i'm sure youse can image it anyways. Lessons were learned, lifestyles changed, management techniques applied. And 21 1/2 yrs on from Day Zero, i've learned to live with & manage this condition.
The photos scrolled on, that's my lifeline kept in fridges, in boxes & drawers. The amount of different technologies, management techniques applied......all these things, picked up over the years, have brought me to this point, have brought me thus far.
The newspaper clippings, they date back to about 15yrs ago. Those kind of stories that you'd hear of how a single injection or procedure had the potential to cure diabetes, but still had to go through further medical trials. And today, the posibility of a cure is glimpsing ever closer over the horizon. But until then, i'm managing this condition in the Now. This tech & management are what are physically keeping me going. Emotionally, spiritually, and mentally, it's the support i get from my friends & family, the countless medical professionals that i do & have seen and kept me in check, and my DiaBuddies - other diabetics, some of whom i've met, others i've corresponded with online. In this digital age, of social media interacting, we find ourselves being brought closer together, helping us through the tough times.

It was so nice to be by the sea today. I walked up the esplanade from Aberdeen city centre to Old Aberdeen. Love the sound and the sight of the waves crashing in on the shore.
I'm so happy to finally announce that National Boys Choir's recording of 'All Those Men Who Marched Away' available now on all streaming apps and for CD pre-order (link in bio). 👆🏻💿💷 It was such an incredible experience recording for this back in April. This album is to commemorate 100 years since the end of World War 1. I am also greatfull to have had the honor to sing these live at Glasgow City Halls in April too. Please give it a listen 👂🏻🎶💿
We popped into Aberdonia last night to see Rebus: Long Shadows and it totally threw me back to sitting with my granny👵🏻 whilst she ogled over John Rebus and because I was 14, I found that wrong in every sense🤓. But... It turns out I’m actually a Rebus fan, based on last nights performance anyway. Slick plot, sarcastic Scottish humour and heaps of swearing = pretty much everything I’m about. Oh aye, and check Union Street’s angry bugger sky completely setting the scene 🌌🕵️♂️
