Universe Today ( @universetoday )

@dansullivan from Brooklyn, here again with my second photo for the day. Big thanks to @universetoday for giving me the opportunity to take over! This is my second attempt at capturing Andromeda, our neighbor galaxy 2.5 million light-years away. I shot 40 one minute long exposures with super clear skies in a low light pollution area (Connecticut) which makes all the difference in the world. This was my first time using PixInsight to process the photos and man, it’s a beast. Very complicated but very powerful. You can check out my Insta to see more images from the processing steps for reference. ——————————— Canon 5D Mark III Sigma 150-600mm Sirui T-2004XL Tripod Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer ——————————— Focal Length: 388mm Exposure: 40 x 60” Darks: 20 Bias: 250 Aperture: f/6.3 ISO: 3200 ——————————— BackyardEOS for image acquisition Processed in PixInsight (5+ hours) ——————————— #milkywaychasers #longexposure_shots #nightimages #nightshooterz #nightshooters #nightpics #milkywaygalaxy #astrophotography #astrophoto #astro_photography_ #astro_photography #longexposure #longexpohunter #longexpo #amazing_longexpo #amazingearth #natgeospace #sun #planet #space #photooftheday #instagood #supreme_nightshots #weownthenight Want to be featured? Not that long ago, it was only the big scopes on the mountain tops that could get these images. Congrats.

  • @edstruble 1:53 AM Dec 17, 2017

Awesome! I really wish I had the resources to be able to do stuff like this!

  • @edstruble 1:57 AM Dec 17, 2017

@nour_aflatoun the matter that is close to the supermassive black holes at the center of galaxies is moving very fast, and ends up hitting all of the other matter creating friction. @starstryder does a much better job of explaining this on @astronomycast

  • @clearskytonight 4:09 AM Dec 17, 2017

    Beautiful

2.5 million years ago. Andromeda may look different today, but man, that is a lot of lifetimes away!
