If nature has made you for a giver, your hands are born open, and so is your heart; and though there may be times when your hands are empty, your heart is always full, and you can give things out of that - warm things, kind things, sweet things - help and comfort and laughter - and sometimes gay, kind laughter is the best help of all.

Remembering last year’s trip to the Peace Palace in The Hague, as the world acknowledges Armistice Day. *************************
Peace is what every human being is craving for, and it can be brought about by humanity through the child.

With inclusion as one of our main areas of focus in the work we do here, the topic of limitation hardly ever comes up. Natural borders, the most photogenic of partitions, do appeal to us for photo purposes, however! I’m looking forward to spending a little time with the folks at Educateurs Sans Frontières over the next little while on a special project. Are you familiar with their work? The concept of educators without borders is so appealing to me; I am amazed to learn about the diverse programs supported by them around the world from their headquarters in Amsterdam. Please take a look by using their link on the official website for Association Montessori Internationale and prepare to be amazed!

As I went walking I saw a sign there,
And on the sign it said “ No trespassing”
But on the other side it didn’t say nothing,
That side was made for you and me.

The skies over Connecticut were framed in glorious color yesterday. Today, I head back up there. ✈️ But first, there might be crumble. 🍎 After all, everybody’s good at cooking something.....

With night coming early,
And dawn coming late,
And ice in the bucket
And frost by the gate.
The fires burn
And the kettles sing,
And earth sinks to rest
Until next spring.

Ah, now I remember....
There was a piece of warm strudel for breakfast, or a slice of that zucchini cake with the sweet glaze. There were enchiladas, created in the after-school cookery club and shared around the pine table in the evening twilight. Autumn tasted good in New England. 🍁
I’m glad to see that the memories, and the plates, have survived. ☺️

We are all travelers in the wilderness of this world, and the best we can find in our travels is an honest friend.

Do you know that today is Outdoor Classroom Day? This global campaign to raise awareness about the benefits of outdoor experiences in a child’s life is gaining momentum, as I believe it should. Our family has been blessed with the chance to avail of several outdoor educational programs over the years, including beautiful Montessori farm environments in Connecticut, the splendid Chewonki semester program in Maine, and summer music camps in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Today we remember the energy and spirit of so many inspirational educators who work their magic in nature’s classroom. 🌱Will you be learning outdoors today?

Seven years of family life are preserved forever in a single moment. Katrina, ever watchful, surveys her universe while the children live out the joyful remnants of the day. For all the days I ever spent in this garden, I am grateful. The photo was a gift, and so are the precious memories.

I wake in the morning early
And always, the very first thing
I poke out my head and I sit up in bed
And I sing and I sing and I sing.
