It’s crazy how quickly the light can change. What was muted, bloomed briefly into some explosive colors in the sky in Germany. With @yoursashfully & @alexander_lau_

It’s in the single digits today in NY, which is way colder then when Ashley and I made couple days stop in Switzerland at the beginning of the year. We borrowed my parents car and drove down in a few hours. It was Ashley’s first time there, and the mountains and snow were stunning. I got this shot of Ashley in a field surrounded by mountains with a small church in the background. It’s hard to tell but those mountains just go off and up. Happy Monday, and stay warm ☃️ folks.
I took a couple of portraits of my brother Alex, who did some hikes with us in the Black Forest. He’s younger than me but just turned 30 at the end of the year! It still boggles the mind when I think about us as kids running around the bamboo forests of Oahu. This type of environment is so different for us that it’s still fascinating even if it seems creepy and drab to some. Hope everyone had a good week, looking forward to the weekend ✌️

Here’s another sunset shot, with the mountains in the background. I love this warm late afternoon light even though I was getting a bit of lens flare. Also a couple of shots of my brother @alexander_lau_ you can see we’re related 😂

Moments like these are why I now hike with my long lens, 70-200mm, even though it’s a little over 4lbs. I love the compression of distance you can get, especially when you have mountains going off as far as you can see. The ones in the back are the Swiss Alps. From our German sunset hike several weeks ago.

Another one from our German sunset hike a couple weeks ago. Back in the States now. This made me think of the Dark Tower by Stephen King. Anyone else read that series? Happy Sunday

This view was at the top of a mountain above the clouds you can see in the background. The large mountain range in the back are part of the Swiss Alps. The waterproofing in my boots wore off (amateur hour) so my feet were getting cold, but Ashley convinced my brother and I to stay a little longer. Glad we did and saw this beautiful sunset. Everyone else had left so I got the shot of Ashely with no one else around but you can see all the tracks in the snow. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

One of the rare moments of sun in Germany. Ashley was blazing ahead because she wanted to get to good spot for a possible sunset. Sun didn’t show again, so I was glad to be going a little slower and taking this in. Then again, I’m not getting younger and may have eaten too much flammkuchen at the restaurant on the trail. More about that in a different post. Happy Thursday ✌️

Hi guys, happy new year! I’m back after taking some time off and getting over a cold now. Went to Germany 🇩🇪 for the holidays with @yoursashfully to visit my family. (Mom’s German). Went on a hike with Ashley and my brother Alex @alexander_lau_ and saw these sheep in the Black Forest. The second shot was from a little further down with the frost covering the plants. Didn’t get much snow but there were some cool, moody days. Hope everyone’s year is going well.

One last fall shot from the Adirondacks this past October.

This field is an art piece called “Storm King Wavefield” by Maya Lin. I love the contrasting greens and oranges, even though the sky is gray. Depending on weather/rainfall park employees may ask people to stay off the grass so be aware of that. I hope everyone has a good weekend ✌️

From Storm King Art Center on Saturday. Sometimes noon is a good time to shoot. Not pictured, the people I removed from the scene, maybe 10-12 or so. Happy Wednesday everyone! ✌️
