Finished reading Dumplin', watched the Netflix adaptation, and blogged about both. New #BookThoughts + #MovieThoughts post on the blog now (link in bio). And a question - how much time do you like to give between reading a book and seeing the adaptation? Trying to plan for #GoodOmens in May... •
📘I recently interviewed the lovely author Tayeba Abdur-Rahman, author of "The Brink of Burnout: How to take back control of your work life and stop living for the weekend." It’s a self-help manual for recovering overachievers who are working themselves to the bone (does anyone else recognize themselves in the title!?)
After reading through her book, two points that Tayeba made about accountability really hit me. One is that the people who get burnt tend to get burnt out over and over again. The second that stuck with me was that this is due, in part, to having different boundaries than others. Visit my blog for the full interview and link to her book.
In our interview, Tayeba also speaks about the struggles and lessons learned as part of her self publishing journey. Her only regret is not doing it sooner! So don't let perfectionism, and self-judgment creep in and cause you to procrastinate..
“That’s probably the hardest lesson, procrastinating on writing a book in the first place. I realized that once I got started and committed to the process, I learned valuable lessons about who I am and what I’m capable of and I also inspired other women who have powerful messages to share.”
Tayeba’s advice to everyone: If you have a message you want to share with others, don’t keep it to yourself!
Have you ever wanted to write a book? 📚 What would you write about (or are you writing it already?) Let's chat! 👇
❤REVIEW❤ What a beauty, The Griffin & Sabine Trilogy. Reading the exchange of letters between Griffin & Sabine is so deliciously voyeuristic - opening actual letters, flipping over post cards enhances the romance and mystery and invites you to immerse yourself fully in the story. The characters are artists, and each exchange is filled, literally, with imagery. ❤ I adore this trilogy so much, I'm adding the first book to my giveaway- Griffin & Sabine an Extraordinary Correspondence (look for the little birdie to enter). AND I just found out that a fourth book just released, more on that when it arrives. ❤❤❤ QOTD :Have your read an epistolary novel? (a novel written in documents, usually letters)
AOTD: G & S; Dangerous Liasons; Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde. ❤❤❤
I am 17 years old and I do have a passion for writing. I will be sharing my process and notes with anyone who is interested and I’m also into discovering new writers!
I don’t know much but I do know a few tricks and I’m hoping to increase my knowledge. 🌸
This speaks to me 😂 I’ve heard the jk rowling comparison so many times. She got her agent with basically no rejections and these rejections were from publishers before she went to auction (well deserved obviously)
MY LIFE AS A POTATO got rejected by over 100 agents. Luckily it did sell fast when finally on sub. Times are different, but still, no comparison lol
****Turn on post notification**** Still.
Since you’ve been gone, stillness is the solitary resounding resonance off the walls.
My only early morning call is coffee.
Songs still sound the same as they used to.
I’m alone but I’m not lonely.
When you left, your demons didn’t linger.
They can’t damage what they can’t manipulate.
They used to throw blunt blades that became ricocheted boomerangs of resentment.
Which has made it even easier to settle into my contentment.
Unraveled I remain.
Before you I was whole, which you wished to be.
But before me, you knew no better.
You couldn’t see past your own punctured parts.
Those unhealed holes in and around your hardened heart.
I apologize for giving you love deeper than you could feel.
You always found me grounded even within the unbalanced pull of your gravity.
Was a trifle to be still, even when your chaos took ahold of the wheel.
Revolving around a woman you really could not relate.
To this I must avail, for in the future I know now what I want.... Still.
