Happy Friday, lovelies! I’m at Blackeye Coffee this morning, sipping a hibiscus berry iced tea and painting borders on watercolor granny squares, as one does on Fridays, right?! Haha! Something I’m finding very interesting as I work on this is how I choose the colors and combinations. It feels instinctual, but upon stopping to think about it more, there is sort of a process of elimination in my mind, like doing a sudoku puzzle. I’m not going to use the colors within the square or right next to the square, but also I consider the colors in that column and row. Then I think about value, wanting the color I choose to have a different value from the color it borders. Choosing can be tricky when I’m trying to keep so many things in mind, but these thoughts happen very quickly sometimes, so I wanted to stop and be mindful of what my artistic instincts do fairly automatically. It’s pretty amazing, actually, what our brains can do. This morning I’m really appreciating that.
