I've been at Berklee Valencia, in Spain the past week for a guest artist residency, presenting 2 masterclasses (on performance // and tech) and on Monday, my visit culminated in a full-day session in the AKSS studio producing a new track from scratch. //
I started the day at 10a this Monday. Yanked a ditty I had sung into my phone the day I arrived in Valencia, and began to craft a song in Logic using that as the starting point. I built a basic beat using @nativeinstruments Maschine. And integrated some Kontakt synths to arrange a basic melody structure. I then went to YouTube to research some inspiring Nordic folk melodies, played along on violin, then tracked violin for scratch references. All the while, I had a whole audience of Berklee Masters Program students observing my every move (my process was projected onto the big scoring screen with an HDMI cable). Needless to say, the pressure was on big time. Sometimes, the muse likes to appear under extreme circumstances, and I'm so thankful this was one of them. (The whole experience was filmed by a Berklee film crew, and even the local TV station dropped by for a minute to capture some footage). //
I then proceeded to track guest musicians from Berklee who had applied to be part of the process. I got submissions from some amazing artists! So fun! The tracking room was all preset with various Neumann, AKG, ribbon mics, and various stations for the different musicians I would be working with: grand piano in the room, cello, violin, viola, harp, bass clarinet. I also had a team of pro engineers lead by Pablo G. Schuller, who assisted my every need. We tracked into a protools session in the studio, and then passed the recordings to my laptop on a thumbdrive. Convoluted somewhat, but efficient nonetheless. And important that I felt comfortable with my environment in which to create so furiously and rapidly.
By the 5th hour, I had built the track with Maschine, synths, a simple sine wave bass, and scratch violin, and piano by Oneill. Intro, verse, and chorus. At that point, since we had only 3 hours left, I had no time to edit takes, just track musicians with various moods and feelings, using descriptive words...

So grateful for the support received for #motherland . I produced and wrote it entirely, so knowing that so many of you are listening to it on the daily warms my heart!
There will be a music video for sure and i have planned something very special for 2019. 💕🙏🏿
It started with a review. A record which connected with me musically and lyrically, words that fell from me to try and pass that connection on. That record - the debut from @chorusgrrrl - is one I’ve returned to often, unexpectedly finding so much of myself in Silvi Wersing’s songwriting.
And now, here we are: Chorusgirl’s second album is out on the label I co-own, @recklessyes, and I’m lucky enough to get to work and chat and celebrate with this band that I love. .
Last night was a really special show - launching their album with another of our bands (and my loves) @fightmilkisaband as well as the thrillingly brilliant @mammothpenguins. That connection music makes, the way we pass it between us, was so much in evidence. Absolutely, beautifully, amazing 💖 .
The words from that review now sit on the back of the band’s cards. A lovely thing and a rounding of the circle. Who knows where words and music will take us next...

This weekend is specially dedicated to my family. I love spending time with the little ones! 😍💖
What's your plan?
I hope everyone is doing okay despite this dangerous and heartbreaking time on planet earth . I wrote this song earlier this year for the fire victims of lake county and right after , Lake county resident Alan Kirsch asked me to donate a song for their project .... so I did !
All proceeds go to two charities, Northcoast Opportunities and United Way of the wine country
Hope you can take a listen and donate . Thank you 🎸👏🏼 #ambientmusic#lakecounty#donatetofirevictims#musicforhealing#guitar#femaleguitarist#womeninmusic
The Diary Of Darling Bonnie: about being social.✨
While living as a faux retiree, I was obviously not at all completely non-productive, in fact I’d launched (& in 6 months shuttered) an editorial site titled, DBXCO.club Pronounced: D-B-X-Co. which stood for Darling Bonnie & Company &/or Darling Bonnie’s Social Club. Here’s something I learned w/ that experience:
Before truly connecting with others first we must learn to connect deeply w/ & accept ourselves, we must learn to be sovereign, we must learn to stand up on our own two feet & live with an internal independence that leaves us devoid of the need to make others responsible for our energetic being in any way, only then can we form and connect w/ a worthwhile interdependent community of sovereign beings operating only in love.
& so it is and forever will be, no longer egoically searching to rescue anyone nor helplessly looking to anyone to save me. From now on any company you see with me, are individuals organically orbiting around me as I them, in higher vibrational resonance for the sake of a purpose greater than ourselves! & really I ask, is there any better way to truly be #social ? #societythings
What a brilliant way to end the tour. Sold out show at the Artrix in Bromsgrove. I was a bit concerned that the people sitting all the way at the back couldn’t see me ;) Thanks everyone who came to see us😀 #hafdishuld#icelandicsinger#livemusic
