Forgot to snap a photo today but here's my swim. A little swim for some but big for me! Swam to the second buoy and though I wasn't feeling tired (impossible at my pace), it was thoughts such as "what if I don't make it back if I go further", that made me decide to head for the beach. My watch tells me that I swam 1.5km. Happy days 😊
August! When daytrippers think towing their boat into the tide on soft sand is a good idea. When offered help they declined quite forcefully! and eventually with a childs bucket and spade and a fraying rope which kept breaking they got the car and trailer out....they are now probably heading out to sea🤤 #summer#august#beach#tide#wildatlanticway#kerry#ireland

Some things we’ve learned along the way:
-travelling with children is still overrated. But I love showing them the world. They’re doing great, resilient little beings they are.
-if we can drive on the wrong side of the road AND the wrong side of the car- we can do anything. Feeling empowered 🤩
-we got very acquainted with the Atlantic Ocean on a boat trip out to see skellig Michael. #wildatlanticway
In Galway and the west of Ireland they have wonderful boats called Galway Hookers.
The name comes from the type of fishing they do Hook and Line Fishing.
In the old times from the Middle Ages to the present day the people of The Claddagh Village which predate Galway fishes the River Corrib and Galway bay.
The Claddagh People survived the Norman conquest and their fishing boats evolved with designs influenced by Dutch Sailing ships.
My friend Corina and I got a lift and from a native hooker pilot and guide/ fisherman who trains local youths in the old ways fishing and boat building. We got on an actual hooker “lovely Ann” and had a ride around the Bay!
Afterwards we had food and wine!
I did a bit of work as well helping to draw up the anchor and helping the pilot untie a small big oak trunk that had wrapped itself up on the anchor. We also found another Hooker Anchor!
Galway was full of weddings 👰 perhaps a Hooker Wedding is the way to go! #hooker#galwayhooker#galway#claddagh#corrib#galwayweddding#naughtons#anchor#anchorman#boats #galwaybaytourcompany#ireland#wildatlanticway
