Journey to conquering Mt. Esii (Highest peak in Manipur- 2994mts )
It was 4ish in the evening, mid January. The sun was already heading for the horizon & it gets dark pretty fast around this time of the year, the cold wind at this altitude is something to worry about for the night. We were not sure how much farther we had to scale to reach the peak. So we decided to pitch our ⛺️ here. But we were faced with two challenges 1. It’s a rocky hill and there are no flat surface.
2. We don’t want the wind to blow off our tent.
Luckily we found a location which solves problem 2 and a little bit of problem 1 ( no rocks but it’s not plain, and it’s too small to fit the tent). So had to clear off the side walls with branches of dead rhododendron trees. And finally, a small spot that could squeeze in our tent was made. Next up, smart us didn’t carry mattress for the floor- smarter us decided to improvise, that’s when project “Make (cut) hay/s while the sun shine” took place.
The Swiss Knife came in handy, and that’s me haying 😄
Presenting Bhog'er khichuri, niramish labra ar payesh.
On the occasion of Durga Puja the khichuri bhog is considered to be sacred and it literally means offering cooked rice lentils to God!
After the worship this dish is distributed amongst the devotees as prasad.
Yesterday we talked about how we are going to change our feed and this is one of the results we were talking about. We hope you like this, do share you views about the new concept we are trying to bring in.
Happy Durga Puja.
The words 'backpacking' & 'shoestring budget' are rarely used in the same sentence as 'flights' & 'airports'. Or at the least, that's the deal in my case.
On another note, last week I was having a random debate with a friend (who has never been to the north east) refuting the claim that there's an airport in Gangtok. I was like, "Why would anyone fly to Bagdogra if they could go straight to Gangtok?"
We looked it up and as it turns out, Sikkim is no longer the only state in India without a functional airport.
The recent inauguration of an airport isn't really relevant to my travel approach, neither do I enjoy being proven wrong by a noob. 😂
But still, I felt nothing but genuine delight when I got the news about Pakyong airport!
Yes, that's how I tag this plave 🙂. Right from my youngest of age , this place has been an incredible host during this season. You have people greeting, hugging each other, you have someone praying a wishful note, you have someone sending a gratitude note & all these along some liveShows by local bands, cultural activities & of course some munchies, much locally called Saa (tea), Chop, Shingara, BajaBora (fried items) just adds that perfect flavour to the festive mood, & so
Dilse, DhimakSe, Manse ...I name this place,
