I had so much fun making these photos. At first I thought it was going to be in vain but then suddenly the clouds vanished and the skies were clear for the entire eclipse.
Have you ever hiked the island? It’s fun when the bugs are gone. Meaning late fall through early spring. I had some pretty epic adventures out there last year. The toddler and I did our longest hike ever. We crushed 22.2 miles in one day. It was as epic as my blisters. When you hike long miles and you start feeling a hot spot don’t wait. Take care of it immediately. I like to use the white sports tape you find in the bandage section. It’s $3 and works better than anything I’ve tried. Yes, I’ve tried moleskin. I also like to take my shoes off in the warmer months and let my socks air out whenever I take long breaks. After the 22 mile hike I learned a lot about blisters since my feet were pretty much one big blister. White sports tape. You’ll love it. Please don’t use duct tape. It’s ghetto. You’re better than duct tape. #antelopeisland#frarypeak#wasatching#hikethewasatch#wasatchmountains#optoutside#momswhohike#humansherpa

Precious Moments Father and Son style. He loves his Daddy like he loves the outdoors. Which is a lot. I’m usually chop liver if Daddy is around unless I’ve taken him out on hikes the majority of the week. Then he will temporarily become a traitor and want Mommy. This week we haven’t been out. He’s practically plotting my death right now 😂 #zionnationalpark#zion#optoutside#raiseawildchild#outdoorfamilies#findyourpark
I know I have been posting about my summer adventures, but I still have been getting out this winter. January is always a whack month for me. Everyone always gets sick and the avalanche forecast usually reads AVYMEGGEDON, if you hike you die. This pic is recent. This is one of our friends. She enjoys the soft carrier a lot of the time and got tired of me talking smack on soft carriers so she had me borrow her Lillebaby for a month to change my tune. In the Mommy hiking world there are those of us who are structured carriers and those who are team soft carriers. We both claim our team is the best. Here is my honest opinion on my opposing team... the soft carrier. For hikes that I was pulling him the majority of the way in the sled and or any short hike, I freaking loved it. A lot more than I wanted to admit at first. Carrying a child in a soft carrier is WAAAAYYYY lighter than a framed pack. Duh. Now throw on a fanny pack for your stuff and you are golden. We do mainly shorter hikes in the winter so I had a hard time giving her the soft carrier back. But I did go on a trail that I needed a bags worth of stuff and used the soft carrier. I had to carry the bag on my front. That was for the birds. I was dying of heat with a child on my back and a bag on my front. Sweating like a fat man in a sauna. It was a cold winter day too. I can’t imagine doing that in the summer. I’d probably make it a mile and be like if I sweat anymore I’ll need to be hooked up to an IV to get my fluids back up. My conclusion is that they are both useful. Ones a fork and ones a spoon. Sometimes we need a fork and other times a spoon. Short trips and sled trips are bomb with the soft carrier. Anything else I’d prefer the structure. Oh, another thing. When your kiddo is having an epic meltdown the structured carrier helps buffer that thrashing around on your back. You feel every tantrum times 10 with the soft. Those are my thoughts. Hope they are helpful. #wasatchmountains#wasatching#hikingmomma #801 #hikethewasatch#humansherpa#hikingwithkids

As long as you don’t fall through and die, frozen lakes make for a good time. @wyyyyaaatt
Meadow Utah Hot Springs 2017 If you decide to go check this out there are a couple of things to remember. •The hot springs are on private property. The property owner is generously allowing visitors. Preserve this for the future and leave no trace. •And don’t bathe unless the springs are overflowing. I’ve been told the bacteria counts climb when the water is not cycling. Bacterial infections can result.

Have you ever set the camera on the dash for a long exposure? This is a throw back to a road trip we took with the kids and my parents. Summer 2017, Good times. So much changes so quickly in life. I am so thankful for memories.

Does your toddler look like their snacks and the trail blew up all over their face while hiking? Mine does constantly. Especially if it’s a little dusty. He just rolls around in the dust like a little pig. If you caught sight of him on the trail before seeing myself, you’d believe you stumbled onto one of those lost children of the woods that were raised by the forest animals. I find suckers really help buy time when you want them to be on your back a little longer. I found dum dums, come of the stick easy making them a choking hazard, ring pops.... well look at his face in the photo and there is my case and point. My favorites that don’t come off the stick would be tootsie pops and those one round pops they sell at the grocery store that have a million different flavors. I just keep a bunch in my hip pocket of my bag. He occasionally searches through that pocket when we are home hoping he’ll score one. Here he is enjoying his ring pop, chasing waterfalls and living his best life. #wasatching#hikethewasatch#kidswhohike#wasatchmountains #801
Today as the wind whips ferociously and freezing rain falls from the sky the thought of summer, wild flowers and backpacking will warm my soul. Speaking of backpacking I’m a novice. I’m currently collecting my gear for my adventures I’m planning for this summer. I have poured over the major things and have made a decision, but what do I need that a person normally wouldn’t think they do? What little things have changed your backpacking life? What do most people not think about? Thoughts appreciated! Also, I’d like to take the toddler on short overnight adventures as well. Anyone have experience with this? I’m all ears.
In the meantime I’ll just reminisce of this Mommy only hiking self care day. The one where I got lost in wonderland making my way to the peak. #wasatching#hikethewasatch#butlerfork#wasatchmountains#optoutside#wildflowerseason Photo of myself taken by the talented @hikergirl01

Missing the desert today. I literally count the days until I'm back, standing in red dirt.
