“Slimy, yet satisfying.” 👌
Anyone remember that quote from the Lion King, spoken by Pumba when he and Timon are teaching young Simba to eat grubs? 🐛
Anyone else literally think in Disney quotes?? ✨
#TRICKY. I’m posting this mushroom pic again because it was hidden a few pictures back in my original post about this species that was new to me. This is the one that was growing like a Matsutake, and this pic shows a macroscopic feature I had trouble with, but that would have pointed toward #Hygrophorus faster had I recognized it. I saw these threads as a cortina, a webby veil, when in reality, it’s slime, dried out after a few days of the cap opening up underground. I also mistook the slimy zone on the stem that has sand stuck to it as a ring zone. It can be tricky to sort out some of these features. #HygrophorusPonderatus was a tricky one. #IDfeatures#Mycology#FieldMarks#Waxcaps#Waxcap
🍄FUNGI ADVENT DAY 5:🍄 A special one for me personally on this hump day, the lovely Hygrocybe spadicea ‘Date Waxcap’ from a summer break on the Isle Of Canna, Scotland earlier this year. A first recording for the island, and a beauty too! Very happy to find this little lot. Recognisable by it’s dark-mid brown cap and yellow or orangey gills and stem. South facing on unimproved grasslands are where this rare species likes to grow. This one was found south facing on basalt and unimproved grasslands on the island.
To all my friends, I have destroyed all Instagram accounts that misrepresent my life (so all them cept this one) more on my minimalist journey to come. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the account I truly love and these beautiful scarlet wax caps (Hygrocybe coccinea) Austin, TX 9-30-18 ♥️🍄 Plants: Golden rod (Solidago virgaurea) 🌼and Cardinal flower (Lobelia cardinalis).
