Honor through action!
A few years ago fellow marine @ryanburke04 told me to continue to live an active lifestyle! He told me to many marines get out and spend to much time playing video games! I had no problem following through with that request! I love spending time grinding it out in the mountains. It has become a place of solitude for me. It can be therapeutic when life punches me in the throat. I believe the outdoors can add something to everyone’s life! That’s a big reason why I chose to run this ultra marathon in support of @darkhorselodge. Darkhorse Lodge is building a retreat for combat veterans to spend time in the outdoors of Tennessee. The Lodge will be located near Kentucky Lake. This will provide veterans with ample opportunity to be with each other, outside, and hopefully catching some fish! I feel the best way to honor someone or something is to pursue what you love and live the best possible life you can! If you would like to support Darkhorse Lodge in their efforts to build this retreat you can make a donation by clicking the GoFundMe link in my bio or by visiting Darkhorselodge.org! Thank you for your time and have a wonderful weekend! GET SOME 🇺🇸🏔🙏💪🏻 @marines #rememberthefallen#usmc#oorah#getsome#ultratraining#mountainrunning
HAPPINESS when you smash your course PR and the Strava CR climbing uphill for 2 straight miles 👊🏼💥🔥⚡️
6 miles. 1100 feet of gain 7:59 average pace. .
Lower mileage this week (unplanned but life 😂 and me turning off my 4am alarm a few too many times🤨) but my runs were quality with lots of climbing so I’ll just chalk this up to an “absorb all of your fitness and therefore get stronger” type of recovery week 💯. Happy weekend friends. #dreamreallyfreakingbig
What a fun run today!! I set out to find some petroglyphs that I learned were in the area and mission accomplished!🤠
Swipe for pictures (water bottle for scale). These carvings are roughly 1500-3000 years old and predate the Cherokee who have been in this area for hundreds of years. Nobody know exactly how old they are or what they actually mean. They were tricky to find but once I found them they were much more obvious. Also there was a cool view of Mt Pisgah from the rock that you’d be able to see if I had a better phone😏
And the heatwave continues- I got a later start than planned so ended up finishing around 3pm when it was well in the 90s. Did about 3 miles of gravel, a mile of HOT pavement, and 13 miles of single track (gps stopped about half a mile from the car). I ran out of water about 3 miles from the car which is amazing because I had like 90oz with me tho I did pour out a bunch while refilling my tailwind bottle cuz I’m slick like that🤦♀️
I’ve discovered that my new favorite thing is sitting in streams. I sat in three streams today to cool the fuck off- was really hard to get out of the last one cuz it was so cold and peaceful❤️
Stay cool out there Instagram friends!
Beautiful day on the Cape Split Trail. I enjoyed it so much I ran it twice! The parking lot was packed when I got there at noon but surprisingly traffic on the trail wasn’t too bad. Everyone was very accommodating to me when I called out from behind to pass. The second time out and back people started giving words of encouragement. 👍🏻 I nearly face planted in front of a group of hikers - serves me right for looking 👀 at my watch instead of the trail. Trail snack today was flapjacks - not the pancakes - the UK version. So good. Also, maple candies 🍁. #capes100#capes100training#ultrarunner#ultrarunning#ultratraining#capesplittrail#ns#timetoplay#flapjack#uk#notthepancakes
The trails will challenge you and change you...only for the good. I always say, once you fall in love, you fall in love hard. You will start to crave it in the deepest parts of your soul. The quiet hours out in nature are priceless! It will change the way you think about just about everything. “Running on trails satisfies a primal need to connect with nature. The sheer thrill of treading across dirt, rocks and roots reaches deep into the soul and leaves us wanting more. After I began running ultras, I discovered another soulful connection with the trails that I never expected.” (@ultrarunningmag )
Relevant in all parts of life, really: “a bad run doesn’t define you, how you move forward does”. Endlessly thankful for my coach/friend @diellesmells@innerdriveathlete 🥰 and everyone else that is always seemingly rooting for me. Especially that dude going up Malans today that shouted at me “GREAT WORK, LOOKIN GOOD” all the while hiking with a BABY strapped to his back 💪🏼 NO DUDE, you are the crusher 👏🏼This community rules 💚🏔
Wow! These mountains, simply put, are INCREDIBLE! Accomplished the #goal of traversing the entire #backbonetrail by completing the last little 4 mile section that had been overlooked for years. This was not a thru run accomplishment (maybe a future #bucketlist item) but a piece by piece project. When added up, those 67 beautiful miles become part of your heart.
A special thank you to @jbcabinetry for being so supportive. I love you E!

Cheesin’ hard because the last summit was over and smiling even though I was feeling quite rough at this time. I’m so used to spending so much time alone and being an introvert, alone is where I feel most comfortable, but I still have moments where the demons come out and I have to battle it out with them. Also, I’ve been with Lili so much lately who is such a big distraction, today without her, I was truly alone. Felt good to build that mental game, but yeah, I missed her.
@maverickrace x @the_tribe_way run free marathon done! What a day! I started having pain in my Achilles a couple of days ago and was worried I would absolutely ruin myself with this, but thanks to the magic physio ginger and some magic tape I didn't have any pain and my Achilles is even now pretty happy. Win!
Another win was the fact that I got to shave off 15min off my previous trail marathon time, which was from my first marathon back in September. And that with more than double the vertical gain. I'm so pleased.
When A doesn’t go to plan, there are 25 more letters in the (english) alphabet to choose from! Feeling blessed to have a purpose, a supportive family and amazing friends, to be able to move my body daily and to be free to choose every aspect of my life - possibilities are endless! Thank you life 🤩✨
