Live now. The @vacheronconstantin ‘American 1921’ was introduced in 2008 as part of the brand’s Historiques collection. With origins tracing back to a limited series of watches produced for American motorists, the idea was to create a driver's watch with a rotated dial, making the viewing of time easier with a hand on the steering wheel. This particular style was first introduced in 1919, with the dial aligned to the left, before adjusting to the right side in 1921 (giving the watch its moniker). Arguably the most visually distinctive, contemporary watch made by Vacheron, scrolling Arabic numerals are taken from 19th century pocket watches, with elegantly-curved lines and the “4” tipped with a cross. The brand's motto “Do better if possible, which is always possible”, is evident in the exceptional finishing of the 4400 AS calibre, surpassing the standards known as the ‘Poinçon de Genève’ or ‘Geneva Seal’. This examples comes as a full-set, with its original box, papers and accompanying materials from the manufacture. Available now.
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak was named after a battleship - not the tree. It was designed less than 24-hours before its presentation in 1971 at Basel Fair.
