All the best laid plans
We’d only ever been to Berlin in the winter. Wrapped up in huge coats, sightseeing meant darting between locations and cafés for coffee and cake to warm up. So, visiting the East Side Gallery, a stretch of Berlin wall filled with street art, was on the agenda for our brief 24 hours there Friday through to Saturday. Signs were good when our plane landed. And then, a 10+ degree drop in temperature greeted us after a quick change at our hotel. Nevertheless, we pushed on through the windy streets as sand from nearby building sites filled the air and leaves rustled around our feet. Luckily the rain held off most of our time at the wall and the wind was even beneficial for arty shots of Stacie’s dress. The next day, we boarded our first train on the meticulously planned journey to our house sit and spotted that our intended stop wasn’t on the list of destinations. A frantic call to our hosts assured us that the board was a mistake (later confirmed by the train guard). No matter how carefully you plan, travel can always bring the unexpected. And yet, schedule changes, detours, and inclement weather are all part of the fun. Or at least that’s what we need to keep telling ourselves!
Speicherstadt (warehouse district) in Hamburg on a cloudy day ❤

Bacharach is a small gem of a town perched on the bank of the River Rhine not too far from Frankfurt and it’s exactly how you’d imagine a beautiful German town should be! Every corner stole my breath away. #travelgermany#germany And don’t expect to find any breakfast before 11am. Life in the small town is slow and carefree.
We said a sad goodbye to France this morning (after Matt went back to @latelier116 to buy 4 pastries and a brownie 😋) and hopped on a bus back to Germany! We’re continuing north on our journey and are stopping for a couple days in the picturesque city of Heidelberg.
It looks like we unfortunately are hitting some rain this weekend, so we rushed out as soon as we arrived and took a walk along Alte Brücke Heidelberg and Philosophenweg, visited Jesuitenkirche and Church of the Holy Spirit, and walked down Hauptstraße. Our @airbnb is nestled right in the middle of Alstadt on the Neckar, so everything is within walking distance. Plus, Schnitzelhaus Alte Münz is literally right next door, which specializes in over 100 different types of schnitzel 😱.
Hoping the rain holds out tomorrow while we wander up to Heidelberg Castle and to the Studentenkarzer! 🤞
