Some years ago I was travelling through Ireland... From Dublin to the North , along the Westcoast to the South and the East coast back to Dublin! 4 weeks driving by myself I enjoyed this wonderful Island so very much and really want to do this trip once again! This pic was taken on Fanad Peninsula. 💚
We were literally 5 minutes walking from this incredible spot. Sandycove Beach is an hidden gem in the south.
Eravamo letteralmente a 5 minuti a piedi da questo incredibile posto. La spiaggia di Sandycove è una piccola gemma nascosta nel sud.
I thought to share this photo of turf cutting from the west coast of Ireland, taken today. I am not in any way promoting turf cutting, just sharing.
The peat fields are extensive in this area and the piles of turf are left to dry out after cutting. The orange plant in the foreground is montbretia, not native at all.
I believe it takes about 4,000 years for turf to form from broken down vegetation, and only where rainfall is pretty constant. Although not glamorous, peat fields lock in more carbon than all of the world's rainforests, helping to combat global warming. #turf#bog#mayo#visitireland#wildatlanticway#thisisireland#peatfields#peatbog#instantirlande
