Truth: When I saw this box from across the street, I thought it was for books 📚...but then I got excited when I realized it’s a place for free dog 🐶 treats 🍖🤩😍 #dogsarethebest
I am going on a social media break the next two weeks. I will only be on social media for a total of 30 minutes each day and not at all Friday, Saturday, or Sunday when we go camping.
I need a break from it. My heart isn’t into blogging right now. I feel I need to be more present with my kids. And I have a TON of books I need to catch upon! I am 3 books behind one book club and I need to finish this month’s book for another book club!
But I’ll be back in full force after Labor Day. Hopefully caught up with reading and feeling revitalized with my blog.
making peace today with the fact that she’s never going to be one of those people who leaves things undersaid ✌🏻

If you have a tattoo, you've heard the whole tattoo care spiel, which includes sun protection. Sun safety is no joke, especially if you're inked. If you have a tattoo, you probably want to keep it looking its best, so it's a good idea to pay a little extra attention when it comes to sun protection. For me that is where @inktheoriginal comes in and helps me #fightthefade with their SPF 50+ Tattoo Sunscreen-full coverage mist. It’s ✔️fragrance free, ✔️dries fast, ✔️provides maximum protection, ✔️water resistant, ✔️contains vitamin E, aloe Vera and coconut oil, ✔️cruelty, petroleum, paraben and oxybenzone free, ✔️broad spectrum UVA/UVB.

Instagram vs. Reality
I think it’s safe to say that most of us have a love-hate relationship with social media, and especially Instagram. Today on my blog, I’m talking about the challenges I’ve faced with social media, from “keeping up with the Joneses” to feeling inadequate because I don’t travel enough, shop enough, have a big enough house, or whatever it is.
In recent months, I’ve tried to be more honest, vulnerable, and transparent in my online presence. I don’t want people to look at my life and think it’s perfect. It’s so far from it. So I try to be real about some of the struggles I face, everything from something small and shallow like “ugh, Monday” to more deeply rooted issues like my mental health and body image. I’m okay with everyone who follows me knowing that sometimes Luke and I fight, that I struggle with loving myself, that we have a whole room in our house full of piles of stuff we have no other place for, that while I have so many things to be thankful for in my life, I have problems and feel pain too.
So what does this castle have to do with any of that?
A few weeks ago, Luke and I drove to Scotland for a weekend getaway with his extended family. On the way there, we drove by this castle. (I had to do some deep Google searching to find out it’s called Inveraray Castle.) It was closed when we drove by and we were trying to get to the house where we were staying as quickly as possible anyway. I secretly hoped we would have enough time to stop on our way home, but we didn’t. So instead, since the road becomes a very narrow and very pitched bridge, resulting in traffic lights as only one direction can go at a time, I took advantage of Luke’s slower speeds, grabbed my camera, and snapped a few pics as we drove by. Not bad for being so far away, but we definitely didn’t have a leisurely afternoon exploring a gorgeous Scottish castle. Nope, instead we got stuck in heavy traffic and waited for about 30 minutes in line at the world’s slowest Burger King for something to eat in the car on the 7.5 hour drive home.

Curious what I mean when I call myself a “holistic virtual assistant” ?⠀
I put the world holistic in front of VA because the space I occupy for my clients is a space where all of them is welcome.⠀
We talk newsletters, website development & other important tasks — but we also talk about the hard days. The confusing decisions. The joy of meeting your goals. It’s all welcome. ⠀
It also plays into my business title , A Simple Alternative, because the choice to bring all of us to our business is a simple shift, that ends up changing the whole framework of business. ⠀
It allows more space for more people to play big. It allows all of us to be all of us.

The world is our oyster // looking out toward the future with excitement, learning day by day not to be rigidly attached to timeframes and achievements but rather to enjoy the ride, understand the lessons, and trust that desires will be met with support just so long as we keep to the conscious path we’ve set ✨⛵️
I choose to break the cycle
To accept that I cannot wallow in the sadness of thoughts I had and actions I took when lacking the knowledge and insight I have now
That this is how you gain the insight in the first place. How you grow, move forwards, become a happier, freer, more understanding, more compassionate person and Parent. Mistakes are how you learn
I choose to keep going simply by keeping on going. Through sadness and despair, when I feel 'how do I get myself out of this? Is there even a way? If only I hadn't made those choices that brought me here now'
Yes there is a way. The way is one leg in front of the other, choosing not to give up, even if it feels like you're not doing well
It is by experiencing and participating in our choices that bring us to the low points, and allow us to walk forwards in a more tuned direction

This is nothing skin related. Well maybe it is a bit because I’m already pissed off about breaking out again. Nothing too major but enough to get on my tits!
Anyway, JUST when I thought my anxieties were at bay and I start trying different techniques to control the way I feel, something has to crop up and knock you me down.
Today’s debate.. childcare!! I love my children dearly. In my opinion I created angels and I’m so proud to call them mine. Don’t get me wrong, Noah is a total shit at times and tests my bloody patience no end, but he isn’t nasty, he isn’t horrible, he’s just demanding. The problem is, I feel like asking anyone to have him is a total burden and whenever anyone says anything remotely bad about him, I get on the defence straight away. Maybe it’s cos of his birth (which I’ll vlog about another time), or maybe it’s cos I know he’s my last, I’m not sure. My Dad is amazing with him but he owns and runs a hotel pretty much 7 days a week and he struggles to have him every other weekend. I can’t financially offered childcare every weekend so what is the answer?! I know you have to deal with this when you have children, but I never realised it would be this hard?! 😩
Every year on baby girl’s birthday we ask our friends to answer a question, fill in the blank or complete a thought. Then we collect those answers and put them in a “time capsule” which we will give baby girl on her 18th birthday. ⠀
Our “question” this year was, “_________ changed my life.” As I was going through the cards tonight, I saw my husband had written, “You changed my life.” ⠀
Guys, I lost it. 😭 ⠀
He is such a good dad. My heart just swells with pride. 💕⠀
Your turn, fill in the blank, “________ has changed my life.”

I’m full of the joys of spring this morning: the sunshine is back, I’m en route to a spa and the podcast I recorded with @kat_horrocks a few weeks ago is LIVE. If you want to learn more about my blogging journey, university and lots of other random things that are probably really embarrassing then the link is in my bio. Listening to YOURSELF on the train is a weird one, let me tell you. Thanks for letting me ramble away Kat ☕️💘

Colour, it’s an instinctive reaction probably formed before you even have the words for it. Much like Monday mornings. An instinctive reaction that makes you reach for the coffee rather than the tea...

A few blackberries picked but not enough to make jam. Someone else has discovered the same spot and they are nearly all gone!!!! The blackberry hunt starts again!!! Happy Monday everyone!
Me walking away from the pasta & wine diet that I’ve been on all weekend.🚶🏻♀️There are several things I need in my life ASAP: to hit the gym, a large bowl of pho or maybe some sushi, and Oregon drinking water.
