Had a conversation with a colleague today connecting the grace + beauty + technique of olypmic lifting to our teaching, research, and service. Which then led to a reflection on mindfulness, which then made me think of this book that has been in my backpack waiting to be read! Will take some time over winter break to slow down and give it a read! Anyone else read this yet? #toddleronthetenuretrack#academicswholift#academicmama#tenuretrack#theslowprofessor

Good morning! Sharing some of the things that I try to keep in the forefront of my mind as I'm planning out my week... (1) Have a plan. (2) Plan with the end in mind. (3) Be flexible. (4) If it’s not on the calendar, it won’t happen. (5) Share your calendar. (6) Write everything down. (7) Consistency is better than randomly interspersed large chunks of time. (8) Lower your expectations. (9) Know yourself. (10) Know your family. (11) Embrace trial and error. More details on the blog! 📷 2017 trip back east to visit family. #toddleronthetenuretrack#academicmama#tenuretrack#scheduling#planning#newblogger

I vividly remember my first official day on the tenure track. I was sitting in a colleague’s office, trying my best to make it seem like I had it all together, while on the inside I was 100% convinced my brain had been replaced with mush... What's #toddleronthetenuretrack
all about? Check out the first post (link in bio)! #academicmama#toddlermama#tenuretrack

There it is. Year 1 review materials are in. It only took a few months and practically all the time of a 19-hour/week administrative assistant who saved my butt! Such a ridiculously arduous (and not environmentally-friendly) process
It is with sincere gratitude and enthusiasm that I announce my return to the Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. My appointment as an Assistant Professor will begin August 2019. Although I am sad to leave wonderful colleagues at Virginia Commonwealth University, I am excited to begin a new chapter with the community where my doctoral studies began. It’s always a good day to be a Tarheel! #NewTitle#AssistantProfessor#TenureTrack#UNCChapelHill#BlackWomenPhDs#BlackAcademics#SlayingAcademia
