I did something today.. I signed up for my first race of 2019. The only ultra-marathon that begins w a shot of alcohol and race start of 12:00 am. I selected this race as an opportunity to train/practice running over the night and in complete darkness up in the mountains. With the average elevation 10,700 ft, and over 9,000ft of climbing across 53 miles, there is no guarantee of making it to that finish line. “In my own life, I have found that every GREAT experience comes from 3 key things - those things being: 1.) the places that you are in, 2.) the people that you are with, 3.) and the challenges that you’re facing.” Brad Ludden - founder of @first_descents 📷: @hprunningseries
My run today was a bit of a hot mess. (Sorry, @itsheathersturn! Good thing you’re taking the reins back next week). Originally I was going to run a super easy “longer-ish” run. I hadn’t decided how far, but the goal was 6-8 miles.
3 miles in I got paged for work and needed to get back to my car SO! My super easy 10:30ish pace on the way out turned into a (8:26, 7:49, 7:39) on the way back.
All I could think was: “just keep breathing, just keep breathing! How in the hell did I run faster than this for 26 miles?! Just keep breathing!” I didn’t die. 😆
I got the issue handled in my car and decided to go out for a couple more easy miles, which turned into 3.35. 🤔
So basically I ran 9.42 miles with paces all over the map! 🤷🏻♀️
In other news, I was able to get in four runs this week while working and playing mom to my five nieces and nephews! I’m kinda proud of that!! 🍻

I'm so proud of these two! @jheckjr and I were the race directors for the inaugural @drugfreepg 5k, which meant a VERY early wake up for them. They helped with registration, handed out medals and water bottles, and wrapped up the event by participating in the kids race.

My goal was to run 10mi. I managed to convince my husband to run 6mi with me. I consider that a success. I’ve completely enjoyed a cutback week. I’m also looking forward to getting back to a routine later this week.
Been quite the adventurous week or so. I was able to pull off not one but TWO shorts runs in February, on of which was in shortsleeves too! Back to the typical winter temperatures, and the countdown is on for Jackson Hole! Forecast is looking great and looks like we might just get some powder days in. Packing the sneakers and hoping to get a nice little run in at 6000ft while I’m there. Staying busy at the station too, climbing ladders, learning the tools and becoming more familiar with my gear. A few EMS shifts, a fire shirt, 8 dispatch shifts and a few runs separate me from skiing the West with the best - T minus 10 days now!!! 🏂⛷
I did NOT wanna get outta bed this morning -- but I DID!!🙌 #winning
Easy miles this morning and loved that sunrise😍 I'm really struggling to find motivation these days but trying to hang in there a little longer!!
