9/20 — The 9th country in our round-the-world series: Australia. Given its size, you can probably imagine we had a lot to choose from and plenty we didn’t get to see. We spent 4 very, very active weeks traveling much of the east coast - from Tasmania to Melbourne and the Twelve Apostles, Sydney, Brisbane, and finally Cairn and the Great Barrier Reef. All that and we still felt like we had barely scratched the surface of this beautiful continent.
If you have the opportunity to visit, we highly recommend that you plan to travel as slowly as possible. Australia was hands down the most expensive place we visited on our RTW trip (we spent most of our time in South America and South East Asia). The more you move and the faster you need to move, the more expensive it’s likely going to be. It’s also the kind of place that rewards slow travel. Picture this: scenic drives, long hikes, slow beach days, top notch food scene, friendly locals you actually want to get to know, and so much more.
