SQUIRREL SPEAK: THE LOG - Taking a Simple Memory and Creating a Teaching Moment.
Some way or another my childhood friend, Tim, became the owner of an 11 ft. surfboard we quickly named “The Log.” This baby needed to surfed, and we had made the decision summer would not officially underway until we each had Christened the Log by riding it once. It took a Ford Station-wagon and two or three of us to carry this monster to the water’ edge. First attempts to ride the beast were impossible because we could not turn the board fast enough to catch an approaching wave. We would get it turned just about sideways, parallel to the shore, the wave would hit and there went the rider and board tumbling towards the shore. Leash? What’s that? We eventually figured out the only way to catch a wave with this bad boy was to face the board towards shore making the rider face the opposite direction from all the other surfers who looked at us with disapproval, laughed and made harsh comments. Humbling, embarrassing and not cool...until we caught a wave! The board was so big it made riding waves fun and you could travel all the way to shore enjoying every minute. We took turns for hours paddling it out backwards, facing the wrong way, going against the norm and had a blast. Reminds me, when I think back to when I first decided to truly follow Jesus. Doing life backwards according to the world. Aiming myself in a direction different from the norm. Sometimes being humbled, laughed at, embarrassed...until I realized how fun it was! What a great ride it’s been! Still having a blast. Still don’t need a leash! Amen.

🏖🌸🏝👭 #zwei_rennsemmeln#islatortuga#santateresa#costarica#backpacking#surfing#pazifik#puntarenas#puravida
