Me to my husband: Hey, can you come to town one day soon so I can get my hair done?
He: Yep. Just make sure you brush it first so they don’t charge you overtime 😘
Me: Gets out of the car and calls a divorce lawyer.
In my last post I questioned whether Newton’s third law would apply to orthotics and potentially cause a further collapse of the foot. •
My thinking behind this is not so much about the arch muscles weakening, but more to do with the concept of Reactive Neuromuscular training (RNT). •
RNT uses external stimulus/ resistance to neurologically engage an automatic response to help correct faulty movement patterns. •
So by adding stimulus/ resistance under a dysfunctional “flat” foot, are we just strengthening the dysfunctional pattern and training the muscles in the arch to eccentrically load (collapse) at a time when they should be contracting (raising)??
So maybe instead of over-prescribing and over- relying on orthotics we need to start training patterns that will allow the foot to function in a way that supports us
