Just finished our orientation at our clinical site! For those that don’t know, this is my very first clinical! We are in our gerontology rotation and my site is a retirement community with independent living & areas like assisted living! The facility is super beautiful and nice & I have my first shift next Thursday! Nervous but excited!
My professor in Microbiology sent us the readings for the first week of class 🙃 I started reading and taking notes but my body and mind is still on winter break mode that I can’t seem to focus 😅 Whenever I need to focus on my work I usually isolate myself from everything and take an hour or two hours doing work and reward myself with a 30mins break (i check my phone, grab a snack, step away from my laptop screen). This helps myself stay on track on what I have to do and not overwork my brain ☺️ How do you stay focus? Let me know! ☺️
Ok I will confirm to social norms and write a soppy status... today I completed my final shift as a student nurse in purple scrubs. I have been working towards this for the last TEN years!! After years of college, working and university I have finally finished my degree in adult nursing and in a few weeks I will be in blue scrubs starting my new post as a neurosurgery nurse.
I won’t lie, the last 2.5 years in particular have been a nightmare and I have wanted to quit countless times.
So I would just like to thank all those that told me to grow up and get on with it!
Ten years ago I never could have imagined being where I am today and I am unbelievably happy with what I have achieved! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ #nursing#qualifiednurse#nursingschool#purplescrubs#nurselife#neurosurgery#cardiffuni#studentnurse

Trying my darnedest to be still and soak up the sweetness of these everyday moments ❤️
Nursing is hard! It can be physically and emotionally draining and overall very stressful. Not to mention when you work HARD, really hard, for your patients and everyone around you and it seems to go unnoticed. •
As a new nurse I would get so anxious before my shift dreading what was to come. Not because I didn’t want to take care of patients, but my mind would start spiraling out of control thinking about receiving report, what if I couldn’t handle my assignment, what if I had a difficult patient and didn’t know what to do with them. What if I didn’t chart everything, what if I charted too much. Also, I worked night shift and had an additional layer of stress, what if I had to call the doctor in the middle of the night. Would he/she be upset? Did I really have a legitimate reason to call? Was it something I could manage on my own? I once had a doctor literally get offended and upset that I asked how to spell his 17 letter last name 😩😩. When chaos seems to be flooding your mind and you feel overwhelmed, go check yourself in your secret hiding spot (for me the bathroom 🤣😝) and tell yourself how dope you are!

Girl, tighten your pony tail and get it done today 👊🏼 you know what they say 👉🏼 when a girl is working out and tightens her pony tail you know it’s about to go down 😅 .
I’m hooked on this program and actually look forward to doing the workout! It’s not too late to join us (hundreds of ladies doing this together) .
DM to me join us on this 6 week transformation OR to join a FREE group I’m running starting on Monday to get familiar with the workouts and community. What are you waiting for?! 😘
When your poorly all you want to eat is soup right. I have a soup maker but that was far too much effort and after frantically searching the cupboards I found this lonely little tin at the back. I’m unsure on syns, I know the tins of soups can be quite high. I found these weight watchers ones ranging from 2 syns to 7 syns. So I’ll say 5 suns to make sure I’m safe. I also had a slice of whole meal bread (hex b) and I’m going back to bed with a Jaffa cake alpine bar (5 syns) and another hot toddy. Iv given the gord his instructions to check on me every hour to make sure I’m still alive. I’m a terrible ill person, maybe it’s a nurse thing? Any other nurses out there diagnose themselves with all sorts when they get ill? 😂 #slimmingworld#slimmingjourney#slimmingworldlife#swsyns#slimmingworlduk#slimmingworldstudent#slimmingworldlife#nurse#studentnurse
📖 The art of journaling in nursing school📖
What's up guys 👋🏼 so I don't know about you but during my first clinical rotation my school did a clinical journal which in the photo you can see is the yellow packet. At the end of each day during post-conference we would take about 5 to 10 minutes to write down things that we did that day, what we learned that day and write down any questions we had. Our clinical instructors had access to these and they would read it after wards to give feedback. I found it to be a really cool concept that my school was doing that they believed would help build your self-esteem which I honestly agree with.
Journaling is a great way to let out your frustrations, help you brainstorm and think clearly during difficult times. It was not always easy to think of what to write that day with the notion that your teacher will read it after. So the other option that I did was journaling on my own to have it personal to me so I could write how I felt. This is great for me as a person who did not pass my first term I can look back on my mistakes and my problems and try not to make the same mistakes again the second time around I try nursing school. .
(Another cool thing I like to think about when I am doing this is think about Ellis Grey from Grey's Anatomy).
I personally believe journaling can be any shape or form that you would want it to be. That can be taking pictures and writing a few captions, making an Instagram account like I did and writing down what you did that day or how you felt that day or being as basic as buying a notebook and spilling your guts out.
LIFE UPDATE: (even thought I’ve only been gone for 2 months😭😂) • I’ve renewed my Disney AnnualPass despite the fact that the prices are going up, Disneyland is my get away from nursing school 😤 • Finished my second attempt of Fundamentals this past week with a B+! Even though I would’ve liked to have an A, in the type of person who has HORRIBLE text anxiety so I really need to study more than others to get the grade I want. I did just that this term and I have to say that I’m proud of myself☺️ (Story time about my first failed attempt coming soon 🤪👌🏽) • Along with my retake of Fundamentals, I had an Independent Study Skills class which went over a review of our Fundamental Skills check offs as well as introduction to some Med Surg Skills, one being IVs! Super excited to do that in Med Surg next term. • I’ve lost a few family members this past year and it’s taught me that time is precious. Spend time with your loved ones, tell them you love them and call your mom/dad at least once a week. 💓 • Just like everyone else, I wrote down a few New Years Resolutions that I really do feel strongly about for 2019. My word of the year is to be UNSTOPPABLE✨
I’m ready to take on 2019 y’all. It’s MY year, I can feel it in my epidermis 🤪😊 #nursingschool#nursing#nursingschool#disneyland#westcoastuniversity#studentnurse#futurern💉
Oh my gosh, you guys. I recently discovered Marie Kondo and her tidying techniques - thanks to Netflix and the constant urging of my mom 😅 - and I’ve been obsessed!
For the past few days, I’ve been organizing and throwing away all of the clothes, makeup, and junk I’ve been hoarding for years. I even threw away choir flyers that I’ve kept since freshman year of high school, yikes 😳 I plan on recycling, donating, or sending my goodies to my fam in the Philippines! But man, I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders 💆🏻♀️
Anyone else going into 2019 with the intention of being clutter-free? Feel free to leave organizing tips because I definitely need the help 😂
Been busy working on my planner set up recently. Started this new minimalist attempt back in November but with everything else going on, it got a bit left behind 😂🤦♀️ But! I think it’s nearly finished 💖 I’ve hand drawn all my inserts so I could tailor it to what I needed, + I love it! Going to do a little flip through soon 🌿✏️

When Duty Calls: Grab the right bag @wearfigs
As promised, a continuation of my NCLEX prep! What test prep did I use? And why was it the best decision for me?
There are plenty of test prep options out there to help nursing students prep for the nclex for example, kaplan, sanders, and nclex review books. I personally invested in the NCLEX-RN @uworldnursing and that was the only program I used to study for 1-2 months before taking the exam. UWorld is a reputable software used among medical students and in the recent years their services have expanded to nursing. The main reason I chose this product is because the software offers a very similar interface and layout to the actual NCLEX exam. Test taking anxiety can influence performance. The familiarity of u world to the actual exam definitely eased my anxiety. It has over 1300 challenging practice questions for licensing exams!!
B e n e f i t s✨
✔️CREATING YOUR OWN TESTS gives you the ability to create your own test with the number of questions you want.
✔️LOTS OF SATA, plenty of select all that apply questions designed to replicate the Nclex in every way. You will master SATA Qs by the time you complete Uworld! I sure did!
✔️RATIONALS explain the correct answer in detail and provide rationales for each of the incorrect answers. Ensures that you fully understand what is being tested so that you are prepared for the exam. I spent a lot of time review the rationales, it was the best way to review areas of weakness.
✔️MOBILE APP on Apple, Android, and Kindle so you can practice questions on the go wherever and whenever there’s time. This was my favorite!
✔️TIMED AND UNTIMED MODE as well as tutored modes which give you immediate feedback and rationales on submitted answers. Great to track time and improve speed!
There are no cons! It’s super affordable in my opinion. Investing time and money on test prep is well worth it. Remember, find what works best for you and then commit to it. Next post will share my study schedule months and weeks leading up to the nclex. Stay tuned :)
Would love to hear what test prep you used for your licensed exams😊
