❗️Hey y’all! I’m currently doing a paper for school on the affects of a flipped classroom vs the affects of a regular classroom in S.T.E.M curriculum (or otherwise. I’m in STEM so I’m needing to dedicate 1/2 of the paper to its curriculum.) 🌡🧪🦠🧬🔬 PLEASE help a sister out and comment if you want to answer a few questions for me via PM! 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼🙌🏽 •all majors or non college students welcome• 📚

LITTLE PALAEONTOLOGISTS 🦖
This week, our Little Explorers used different tools and techniques to recover the frozen dinosaurs 🦕 They used cold water, warm water, hot water, salt and salt water with pipettes, jugs and paintbrushes. Which tools do you think would have been the most effective?
FUN FACT: After this session, Jesika has now completed this activity with over 300 little palaeontologists! 🙊
#kidvention concept no. 6,562: Jellybean/Candy Randomizer
Last night, Draven went through his brainstorming and told me that he was going to invent a machine that would add the element of surprise to the jellybean eating experience.
He got all his materials together and went to work and about 45minutes later. He was ready for testing. He tried counter-weights, (using an apple dropping off the table, and then taped two together when it wasn’t heavy enough) but then scrapped the idea.
Next, he pulled the string to the corner and it wasn’t working, so I cut a slice through the box and he did a test round and realized the box was too light, so he put a spray bottle inside. Guys! It’s finally paying off! he’s actively calling out a solution to a perceived problem, and he’s creating intentional designs that actually do just what he pictured them doing. Draven has always been big on building “contraptions” and “inventions” and while I wish I could say I was never bothered by the mess or the debris of concepts gone awry, or him putting a box on my diningroom table and wanting to “work on it later”; it drove (and drives) me bonkers!
But watching him think, focus and solve problems with intention... watching him create and try and work to see something through to the end. My heart is SO full! Proud of my little dude today!
Hamish having a ‘tinker’ with his @kiwico_inc crate. These have been the best Christmas present - he loves making them, and I love watching the anticipation for the next one to arrive. Better still - he’s learning too.
If NUDM BUILD(s) it they will come! Cheers to @nudm for hosting our students for a fun STEM "BUILD" day in Evanston. If you're just tuning in, the NU Dance Marathoners chose our org as their lead recipient this year. Why? Because they believe in our vision of ensuring all Chicago Public School students graduate from high school prepared for success! #kidswhocode#allinforkids

Today Belle learned about polarized light! She had so much fun making this color changing art and learning how white light changes with the rotation of the filters.
On your mark, get set, let it go! We’re off to the races!
We’ve had so much fun working on this Lego Balloon Car STEM activity this week in partnership with Sylvan Learning. STEM is the practice of teaching kids science, technology, engineering and math in fun, hands-on ways that really let them see some of the ideas at work and this project combine science and engineering to offer loads of fun. Building Lego Balloon Cars was the perfect way to get my kids (and my husband) excited. While my son was a bit young to grasp all the concepts, my daughter is at prime age for learning about these principles that help to make our world work. Grab the instructions over on the blog today and make sure to save this for a rainy or snowy afternoon in-doors. I’m all about creating projects with Layla as I love to see her creativity come out and it’s a great way to spend time together. I love these subscription boxes from @kiwico_inc where we get to create fun new STEAM projects every month! (STEAM = science, technology, engineering, art, and math.)
They have projects that are geared for ages 0-16+ and I love that everything that you need comes right in the box! Not only do we get a fun project to do, it’s also really educational and Layla learns a lot from each project! We made this fun rainbow cloud pillow (that she was able to do almost completely on her own!) so head on over to my stories to see how it all came together and how to get a free box for your kids! #ad#theishgirls
🎶A B C, easy as one, two, three... The twins have been busy little learners over this last year. They’re totally going to be ready, and crush kindergarten come next fall, and it’s all thanks to amazing curriculum programs like @elephantlearningapp
Growing up, I struggled with mathematics. It was something that I always felt embarrassed about. I knew that it was super important to make sure I built my own kids up for success with their futures, so they don’t have to go through what I did.
@elephantlearningapp enables the creative process and critical thinking skills, that are necessary to prepare them for their futures. Believe it or not, but mathematics is the foundation of STEM. And, you all know how much STEM is important to me, and giving my children the opportunities to understand & develop a solid foundation in learning.
I really love that the app is customizable to each student, so that you can ensure they are receiving curriculum for their individual learning level. The activities are challenging, while feeling much like a puzzle or game! The boys race to see who can finish the problem first, and get it right.
The design is quite clever, not making it feel like they have to memorize instructions or procedures. Instead, it builds their problem solving skills which they are already familiar with, so they don’t have to feel the pressure of memorization to pass the test.
Cool, right? Check out my bio, and click on the link for @elephantlearningapp to get started today! See for yourself and your child, just how easy and fun it is to learn! 📚✏️📒 •
@learningresources 1, 2, 3 Build It! Rocket- Train- Helicopter has been a total hit in our house this past week. It has easy to handle parts that even Maverick who’s only 15 months old can build with, and the best part about this toy is all the parts are interchangeable so you can build three different vehicles! 🚀🚂🚁
