I try to post a variety of “stuff” we are doing in #STEAM but #kindergarten has knocked my socks off this week. With their excitement and calling out “come look” or even running to me and tapping, it’s truly an amazing experience to witness just how much these little humans have progressed. But today, i share with you why hands-on, authentic learning and #stemeducation is SO valuable. These pictures show the creations of symmetrical snowflakes made by students that struggle, some a LOT, with academics, language, and even...in general. One little guy was able to recreate something from a template ON THE BOARD, the other three images are of snowflakes these guys made on their own—no visual, no anything. I really have no words—every child has a gift, every human does. And my hope is, that those that may struggle in the classroom might just find a passion, a proud moment, success in STEAM. I’m so proud of you little humans!! @henrico_steam#HLP#steamteacher

These. Are. Beautiful. Thank you to @the.freespirit.teacher for understanding my love of organization and neatness...and Rae Dunn! 😊
I turned Think Outside the Box Thursday into a week long project where students can use any extra/free time during the week to design a picture with the shape given. The shape changes every Thursday, and then I display the past week’s creations! Thank you @selebrateyou for the amazing idea and sparking my students’ creativity this new semester!
These #kindergarten students have come a long way since September! We had a short class today so kiddos practiced making one snowflake then had time to make other “winter objects”. Can you spot the robot? The flower? What about the Gingerbread Girl? One little even designed her very own symmetrical snowflake. Watching these guys become more verbal, more excited about learning, and wanting to show me EVERY thing they create makes me a very proud and happy #STEAMteacher@henrico_steam#dumbartonsteam#WinterSTEM#symmetry
STEAM teachers getting together to learn new things and try new lessons! Ms. A can’t wait to share all the fun with the kiddos! Check out our redesign of the 3 little pigs’ straw house... complete with chandelier! 🏡
Today in class we made containers to hold ice cubes and then see if they could hold the water from the melted cubes. This was a STEAM challenge for the second nine weeks and it focused on how natter changes. ➖S: matter ➖T: we watched UMIGO A Cup Fills Up on @youtube ➖E: we engineered containers out of playdough, cling wrap and aluminum foil from ➖A: the blueprint we designed, and ➖M: we measured the capacity of our containers by how many ice cubes we could fit and fill up our containers with. I made this little worksheet for my kids to document on and I’ve added it to my TpT for freeeee. 😊 In the pic with my kids they’re checking to see if the ice had melted and they were super shocked at how FAST in melted. #ilovekinder
Such an awesome first week back to school! I’m exhausted but exhilarated! STEAM 101 is such a blast to teach! I have so many students from all walks of life and yet they are coming together and working as a team to do amazing things! As a first-day, team builder activity (and yet still STEAM learning) students had to engineer a chair prototype for the mannequin. Then students shared out about their process and how they envision their final prototype. This was an excellent activity to introduce STEAM, introduce new vocabulary, build collaboration & communication, and begin to show students the Design Thinking Process! Be on the lookout this weekend for a full post on my website with this lesson plan information. #thesteminist#stem#steam#stemeducation#steameducation#stemteacher#steamteacher#designthinking#lessonplans#highschool#teacher#teachersofinstagram#prototype
I like to use A LOT of recyclable materials when STEAM takes on projects because #earth and this one is a project I am super excited about! We will turn old cereal boxes into biographies of 50 amazing women throughout the history of time that have made contributions to STEM in some way! This project is based on the book ‘Women in Science: 50 Fearless Pioneers Who Changed the World’ by #rachelignotofsky and I cant wait to see how these kids use and transform their boxes! #fifthgradeteacher#steamteacher#teachersofinstagram#stem#steam#recycle#earthfirst
Hello, hello! It's Shai here sharing my first pic in 2019 on my teaching account as part of the #52teachersnaps challenge hosted by @mrsedgarsclass .
I've been trying to keep my teaching and personal social media accounts separate. But, I know it's good to show the person behind the accounts too. So when I came across this challenge, I thought it's a good way to keep this account teacher/teaching-related but add a bit of personality.
A little bit about me: I'm an early career teacher at an independent school in Adelaide. I taught Year 4 FT last year and was asked to be the school's STEM/STEAM Coordinator. This year, I'm repeating this role, but only teaching 3 days in the classroom and 1 day as a specialist STEM/STEAM Coordinator/Coach across two campuses. I'll be fully team teaching for the first time this year! I have a TpT Store where I share some of my resources.
Prior to all these, I did relief teaching for almost a year. And, before teaching, I pursued different career paths including being a digital media professional running my own business serving clients worldwide, such as Microsoft. I was also a communications manager in a national nonprofit organisation, an international speaker, and psychologist in previous career lives.
The other parts of me - the artist, the writer, the mum... They will always be there , no matter what other job I'm doing.
I look forward to connecting more in 2019!

Happy New Year, everyone!
I've meant to post my #bestnine2018 here yesterday but got distracted with different NYE stuff. So, here it is. My first post for 2019.
Thank you all for your support in 2018, as I navigated through my first year of FT teaching. Your likes, comments, etc were all appreciated.
I hope we all enjoy the last bits of our holiday before going back to a new school year. And, I wish you all an amazing 2019 ahead!
Love this makerspace set-up by @snapologymonmouth ! Especially love seeing our Wooden Planks Task Cards in their space (available on @teacherspayteachers ). 😍👍 Thank you for supporting & sharing. ----------- If you use any of my resources, I would love it if you can start tagging them with #CREATIVESTEAMSTUDIO if you post online. I would like to start featuring other people here on my IG account. It's one of my goals in 2019! ------------- RG: "Our @kevaplanks station is a fan favorite at our new Discovery Center! "

It's now official! I'm teaching Year 4 again next year. Same school. But, this time, I will be in the classroom for only 3 days/week. I'm doing STEM/STEAM work across two campuses one day a week. And, I get to take one day a week off (YAY!). Yes, I'll be team teaching for the first time!
Do you know any Year 4 teachers or teachers interested in STEM/STEAM education in primary? Please tag/recommend them! I'd love to connect with more educators. I'm also keen to hear any team teaching tips you might have!
Bring on 2019! It's exciting to see what the new year will bring. Xo ❤

Slowly getting into school holidays mode, though my brain still sneaks in some work every now and then. Here's a flashback post from my Christmas #STEAM Day with my Year 4s. This one's an @ozobot challenge where they dressed up the #Ozobot robots and coded a Christmas narrative. 🎄
Observation 1 ✅ My emoji maker project is probably my favorite technology lesson! My students take on the role of a graphic designer + create their very own original emoji 😁🤗

My computer lab is in the back of the library, leaving little room for a Makerspace area (you can see where my classroom stops + the library begins) I had to get “crafty” with how I could make this small corner work. It may be small, but I love it! 💕 I was inspired by @teachergolz to add the “we are makers” vinyl + giant lightbulbs! 💡The neon STEAM letters are available in my tpt!
