Past Running, Present Recovery: Week 4
Let’s jump now to my favorite half marathon I’ve ever ran. This was back in 2014, almost a year later after my first full marathon. I was competing with @wafik16 at the Lebanese Half Marathon Championship. Through out this year I trained more vigorously for the upcoming full marathon, I broke new limits and I was ready to test it out in this race. My whole intention for that race is do a new PB, and that’s what exactly happened... but didn’t expect what happened after that, you see that third photo, that was a sprint to the finish line next to my running buddy @wafik16 I entered in front of him with less than half a second 😂 (he still hasn’t let this moment rest to date). To our surprise we made the podium in our age category 2nd & 3rd respectively! That moment was exhilarating! Little did I know that the man in the first photo standing next to us would become my future coach @roger_bejjani in @interlebanon_official club. Funny how life works sometimes. #NoRoomForExcuses#RoadToRecovery
P.S. I’m almost starting to look like my present self here 😂

This is the first season since I started @spartan back in 2014 that I didn't get a Trifecta.
And yet, somehow, this has been the most emotionally fulfilling year in so many other ways than personal growth - because of moments like this one.
Shifting my focus this season from "doing as much as I can" to "doing as much as I can for others" has left me with way less medals but way more tears of complete and utter joy. And pride. And a deep sense of accomplishment in a totally different way.
I had less hours spent on mountains, but more moments alone with many of you to hear your stories, give you hugs and connect in a human way that allowed me to spread my message and help people overcome their own fears.
And I owe alot of those moments to the fact that I was just simply training for or recovering from some other goals I had this year.
A quick shift to endurance left me "out" for many of the typical races I do, but I did my best to still BE there as a support system and social butterfly for the community I owe so much of my life to.
Because the fact remains that I would never be where I am today without @spartan.
And that is not an exaggeration.
I don't have a 2018 Beast medal hanging on my wall, but this season birthed so many other firsts for me than the years prior that I'm still bubbling with happiness.
So to you, my 2018 Spartan Season, we knew eachother differently this year, but we learned eachother more intimately.
I'm still just as in love with you as I have been, and I'm honored to be one of the faces (and alleged accents) that gets to connect a little bit extra with so many people.
You all play a bigger role in my story than you probably realize, and I cannot fucking wait to see what happens in 2019.

Do you feel the 🔥?
This surely is my favorite fire-jump to-date capturing my first win 🥇at Spartan Race Kaohsiung after an awesome fight with @quacktieu and @syugyou_sou and @song_byeong_seok
Thanks to @spartanracetw for making it look extra badass and adding some⛽️ to the 🔥.
Guess the Taiwanese say 加油 for a reason 🤣🤣
Enduring all those painful workouts leading up to the races becomes so much easier with pleasant memories & images like this one in mind.
T-12 days until the APAC championships in Johor Bahru. If you still haven’t signed up for the race, use the code SPARTANLEX15 for all open heats and get your very own fire jump photo!
Who is going to run the slay the Spartan Beast with me in JB? Let me know in the comments! 🙏🏼
If you are living in Taiwan 🇹🇼 and looking for some spartan-specific training, feel free to drop me a message 🤗
It’s #medalmonday and today I celebrate the 2018 @spartan race year. Though it ended abruptly for me after @spartanracegreece with an injury, I’m still proud of what I accomplished. I’m excited to have earned my 4x Trifecta, only one Beast away from 5x which would’ve been this past weekend in #SpartanSpartanburg. I chose to compete in the open heat all year after coming back from shoulder surgery and it was such an honor to be on the course again with so many terrific Spartans - all sizes, ages, races, and nationalities. We are truly a bonded community.
Congratulations to all this year, whether you achieved your first or 100th race, or maybe you’ve yet to complete a race, be proud of yourself. We all can and will achieve anything we put our mind to.
Never forget - YOUR WINGS EXIST. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS FLY.
Why do I race? •
When I have pushed myself to my limits, when I’m bruised and bloody, when I’m covered in sweat and slick with mud, when I can’t feel my fingers, when I’m not sure if I can keep going... when I’m gasping for breath struggling to slow my heart rate, not sure if I can hang on... but I somehow do. •
I hold it together, I push past the pain. There is no feeling quite like it. To overcome self-doubt. That’s the smile you see in this picture. That’s the overwhelming joy that fills my soul when I’ve laid it all down. This is where I feel most alive. This is where I feel most at home, most at peace with myself. Fulfilled. I race because it’s what I’m made of. Pure heart and adrenaline.
