#tbt Throwback to my first ever studio job. This was the old Chamber in Scotland. Mogwai, Snow Patrol, The Vaselines, Amanda Palmer etc all came through here back in the day. It never EVER got a DAW and every session was 2" 24 track tape. I learned how to commit sounds at the source, work with artists in the room and most importantly - I learned how to mix records. No Screen. No " save as " / no " undo " / no " presets ". The desk was an Amek 'Big' and it amazingly had both vca automation and recall. We eventually got a single UA1176LN and a 610 Preamp. I would commit sonic crimes, lose a million details to generational loss and run almost everything through the limiter with " all buttons in ". My mentor Jamie Watson taught me to hide the tape hiss from clients by pegging every single meter on the tape machine and the board ( except the kick and snare which he made me park at -3db VU so the transients 'would get through' ). It flooded every summer and the performer headphone amp was a 1000 watt p.a. poweramp that was beyond dangerous. You could find me in here after every single paid shift at 5am experimenting with signal chains and fx sends.....Ns10's prolapsing at 100db, Eventide H910 on everything everywhere...Turbo Rats on inserts and a spare tape channel bumped from sync to replay with a cloned vocal on it for 15ips slapback echo! I thought I had invented it all for the first time! The live room would make it onto a lot of records as a natural reverb ( fx4 to powered speaker 》 2 x akg C12's 》Amek mic ins 》mixbus ) and no matter what - the hiss ALWAYS ended up all over your mix ( unlike the transients ) 🤣

Hiding from @mjdaudio / Warming up my pale face on the Fairchild 670
Been wondering why we have been so quiet on here lately? We have been driving from the Gold Coast to Melbourne to pick up this beauty!
With her meters out, this is our #SSL6000 . Today was the first time I laid eyes on our new baby girl! The SSL6000 - cannot believe she is ours a beautiful E/G series, 2 full days of decommission here and load into our trailer for the drive back to the Gold Coast. Hundreds of miles then into a new home in our new studio. :) Check it out soon.
Chairworks Studio. Tits down, hair up and twiddling the controls of an old Nightpro EQ3.... The inspiration ( I believe? ) for the now studio standard '@maagaudio eq4' we all know and love aaaaand the original go to box for that famous " air " band yellow dial of sex. I pied it for a @thisisapiaudio 5500 in the end though. I guess I just prefer that hard American 20k shelf for fuzz pop afterall! CLICK CLICK
Also enjoy the @chandlerlimited Germanium compressor on an fx send from kick snare and bass.
