A beautiful new collection of hand-carved wooden toys is now available on our site! These toys take quite a while for the artisans to make, as you can tell from their gorgeous and unique style and will not restock again before Christmas. These pieces are truly heirloom quality and we are overjoyed to be stocking them in our shop.

Monday gets such a bad rap because we forget that it's pretty much like Valentine's day. . . it's all about perspective people😎😂

After a bit of inspiration from @etchandtrove and listening to a podcast about the mental health benefits of journaling, I decided to try my hand at it. I used to be big into diary style writing - in fact that's what my journey into blogging originally started as, and those posts are still my favourite things I've written. Along the way though of trying to build an audience, my personal blog became less about what I wanted to talk about and more about what my audience wanted to read. And yes, that is the point of content marketing - adding value to your audience. Your inner ramblings are only interesting to a select group of people at the end of the day.
So it occurred to me that if I no longer feel comfortable with putting those ramblings online, I should put them somewhere at least. And you know what, it's so comforting. Whether it's just to get a to do list down or to think through "out loud" a problem that's bothering you, getting it all on paper is so freeing. This particular rambling helped me figure out what direction I was taking with my social media marketing moving forward, and led to a number of actionable items I could add to my to do list to help me achieve my goals. All from some vague thoughts that had been floating about in my head but hadn't managed to put in words yet 🤷🏼♀️ So, are you a fan of journaling? Or are you thinking about giving it a shot now? Let me know your thoughts!
I've been getting lots of questions about our #debtfreejourney, so I thought I would try to start sharing more about it. We've been on the journey for a long time, but we're getting close to being #debtfree so we're finally to the exciting parts. (It wasn't very exciting in the beginning.) We're on track to be #debtfree in 7 months and while this is very exciting, this is probably the hardest season I've been in regarding it. Honestly, it's just emotional and I've been crying a lot. It's the feeling of coming so far and seeing the finish line and just trusting in God that He'll get us to the end.⠀
This picture is a perfect represenation of our journey thus far. One bedroom apartment (walk-out basement style) in a multi-family home. We have one car, we cut nearly everything possible from our budget. For us, the fewer the line items the better, and we say no to a lot. ⠀
We've been on this journey for 6.5 years.... since the day we got married. We've moved across the country twice. I was without work for half of those years and while there has been times where it feels painful, it's worth all the hard work and sacrafice. When we're done we will have paid off $140,000 in student loan debt. It was the only debt we had and we plan to never be in debt again. Not for a car, not for a trip, hopefully not even for a house. No debt ever again. Because we've had to work so hard to get this far we're rather passionate it about, haha! Pray along with us has we head to the finish line and if you're in your #debtfreejourney give me a shout so we can pray for you too! ⠀

The Lovely Nat from newly opened Cracklepoint Games...no wonder her mind has been getting a work out...that place is a stroke of brilliance and will be awesome for our community. You can meet your mates in there and set up a board game. What a way to connect. ❣️❣️ Our Towns Mental Health Month #lovemeharder campaign is here for all of October. We’ve got two little ideas for you to mark the occasion... 1. Make a commitment to yourself for the whole town to see cause you are so damn worth it (or just make it quietly in your bedroom...no pressure!) 2. Pay a community cuppa forward @keith_murwillumbah cause generosity is hands down the best kind of self love...and get your photo taken by them at the same time to join our Insta and FB #lovemeharder campaign.
You know what the best advice I ever got is?
BELIEVE IN YOURSELF
Cheesy? Yes. Overused? Yes again. But also incredibly powerful & true. Cliches are cliches for a reason.
If you don't believe in yourself, then who will? Who is better suited to be your #1 fan than you yourself? *
I was recently reminded of this piece of advice when I thought I didn't have the necessary skills for a project I was working on. Well, I gave it a shot anyway & surprise surprise, I DID IT!
This little victory gave me so much positive energy that all I want now is to do it over & over again.
It all starts with you, believing in yourself, over & over again. Even when you fail, even when there's nobody else around who believes in you ♥️

This week we are hunkering down with Fall #GFhygge/coffee alternatives like this yummy Rooibos Cardamom Blander Latte via @nyssas_kitchen are a perfect way to enjoy comfort beverages paleo + dairy-free
Proper ingredients. Pleasing, aren’t they? Over the past year or two we have made a huge shift as a family in terms of the amount of plastic, particularly single use, that we bring into our lives. We're a long long way from perfect, but we're getting better each week.
One of the wonderful side effects of this process, alongside feeling we're doing what we can and inspiring our children to live in a different way as they grow up, is that it is, frankly, far more pleasing to buy beautiful fresh local produce from the grocers and organic dry foods from nearby zero waste shop @earthfoodlove.
Shopping in this way, eliminating processed and plastic wrapped food, lends itself beautifully to a slower, more intentional lifestyle, and is a daily reminder of the benefits of choosing to live differently - more gently, more kindly and with a celebration of the world and seasons around us every time we prepare a meal.

A book is a dream that you hold in your hands 🖤
Reading and telling stories is one of our favourite things to do as a family. Elsa Beskow, Shirley Barber, John Bauer illustrations and old vintage finds are our most treasured
Do you and your children have a favourite book? I want to find an extra special book as a gift this year for the girls. So let me know any of your best recommendations 🖤
It's up to me to expand my knowledge and to take initiative to educate myself about the parts of history I don't know much about. ✨Here's to being curious and asking more questions.

I think all year is a great time to read, but it's especially cozy in autumn isn't it? 😊
So let's talk autumn reads! What have you read so far, what are you planning to read? Favorite autumnal book?
I've read The Secret History by Donna Tartt, was a bit skeptical in the beginning but ended up loving it. Then @litandpie's delightfully charming and witty collection Vienna In Short Stories, which I adored.
Now I'm reading A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman, and I don't read many Swedish books or humour, but I'm really enjoying this one. It's funny yet sad and cleverly written. Next up is Anna Karenina which I guess will last well into winter! 😬
Your turn! What are your autumn reads? 🍁📚
Today's consisted of mountains of tissues and a lot of honey, lemon and cider vinegar. The lurgy is in full swing now (and from looking through my feed I'm not the only one) so I've used the time to sit and get back to the basics. Drawing, reading and exploring new design ideas. It's rare now that I get as much time as I used to to just enjoy the process and focus less on the variables. So, strangely enough it's probably a good thing that I'm already holed up in bed. Fingers crossed for waking up tomorrow a little brighter and if you've any remedies to suggest in the meantime then I'm all ears! 🙏🏻🍂 #smallmomentsofcalm#botanicalpickmeup
Tentatively stepping into the new week 😂 After yesterday's post I'm going to attempt to post everyday (or nearly every day) for the next 30 days to see if it has an impact on my growth. Being consistent on instagram is super hard for me and I've never managed it so far. I'm knackered just thinking about it! Do you have any tips for me? ❤️

Guess who’s finally in England!! If you’ve seen my story then you’ll already know but I’m so happy to finally be breathing in fresh air and not spending my time sat down on a plane. It definitely was an experience travelling alone, having to figure things out by myself or ignoring my anxiety and asking someone. I’m so excited to buy some books and wander around some of my old favourite places and maybe discover some new ones. Also it’s autumn and the colours are gorgeous. That’s enough from my tired self today.
Tell me about your day 🖤

Because of reading I now believe: we all need to remember is that even when it seems like everything’s going wrong, we are the authors of our own narratives. We are in control of our outlook on life, our emotions and reflections towards our environment and our attitudes towards anything that comes our way. Even when it looks like everything is going wrong, we are in control for catching that voice of negativity and turning it around, re-wording outlooks and thoughts to make ourselves better because, and I truly believe this, what we constantly think about, complain about, worry about, we give power. When you’re constantly complaining about a situation, you are giving that situation power over you and your life! And this process can take days, weeks or even months to gradually change your outlook on your own narrative but if you practice and practice, you’ll be able to catch yourself falling back into this habit and snip it within a couple of hours. So take control of your own narrative! And make yourself a bad-ass! ❤️

*New Blog Post-Lavender and Pansy Almond Glazed Shortbread Cookie Recipe*
“When I first made plans to photograph this recipe, I was going to do it on my own on a Saturday that I had off.
Then I got a call from one of my youth group girls who has been walking through some difficult times. She wanted to hang out and I said "Um yes...also do you like to bake?" She replied with a resounding yes so I picked her up and off we went to baking this super fun recipe while dancing to music in our socks in the kitchen!”
Read the rest in my new blog post to get the recipe for these Lavender and Pansy Almond Glazed Shortbread Cookies! The link is in my bio!
If I had the chance I’d probably want to visit the pumpkin patch every weekend in October— there’s something about the combination of picking pumpkins and cinnamon donuts that makes my heart happy 🍂🌾🎃 Did you get up to anything autumnal over the weekend? If not I hope you all had a good one! Sending you all lots of love ✨

Been learning a lot about chakras lately 🙋🏼♀️✨ Last week I really focused on the first chakra, being the ‘Root’. It’s all about focusing on feeling grounded and setting down roots- learning about building a strong foundation and sense of direction in both life and business. Pretty much it boils down to defining ‘what is your why’ ✨
Try meditating on these thoughts with smoky quartz, which is a grounding root chakra stone! 🧘♀️
Carry it with you or wear it to remind yourself of your Root Chakra intentions throughout the day 🌲
Thank you for your beautiful words about my plates.
In the beginning of summer, I fell in love with designing clay and pottery, while making my plates. Working with clay, helps me relax from a long and busy work period.
I have always loved table setting and different kinds of plate sets. My wish is that my creations would inspire and make my family and friends happy ❤️This batch I have on this table is the first of many. 🙈 It came Friday, ready and still warm (fresh from the oven)
I will keep on designing, making, and, developing, especially now, when it is cold and dark outside 😊
Bringing a little intentionality around learning for Penny since she declared that she wants to learn to read! (Her reasons being that she needs to read to her babies which she already does quite well by interpreting the illustrations) We are beginning at A but not because it’s the beginning of the alphabet. I’m choosing to start with letters she already knows by sight. A, P, B, S, L. It gives her a little boost of confidence and makes it easier on me. It’s a thing - it’s called “child led learning” and I’m digging it.
When I write down the lessons of my life and work on bettering myself compared to who I was before, I feel like coming home ❤️ Put your hand up if you wrote in your journal growing up 🙋🏻♀️😘

Good morning and here’s to a lovely week ahead for us all. I’ve been lucky enough to pick up some new followers recently so thought I’d show my face and say hello!⠀
I’m Vanessa, unashamedly middle aged and busy cobbling together a life that makes the most all the many things I’ve done over the last 30 years or so. I share my home at #oaktreebarn with unfailingly lovely like-minded women who come to run or attend workshops and retreats here. Building a business has been the most amazing opportunity to get to know myself better, in particular to discover that I really enjoy writing and taking photos more than I could ever have imagined. ⠀
I took this one actually, it’s pretty much the only one of around 100 in which I don’t have my eyes closed or am looking behind me out of the window - I’m getting better as it might have taken me 1000 attempts before 😂⠀
I was genuinely drinking tea here, but it’s fair to be honest and confess that I love a G&T or a glass of red wine just as much. Tell me your favourite tipple below? Tea? Coffee? Water, wine or Pina Colada? ‘Fess up 😉 Xx
