STOP “hope marketing". AKA posting on social and hope that you get biz from it. 😉
Having intent on social does two major things:
1) It helps convert your followers to fans and fans to customers. <— what we all really want.
2) It gives you direction so you spend LESS time on social with MORE impact. Stopping the endless scroll, comparison game, and using social as a TOOL to help build your dream biz! <— who doesn’t want this?
This is why having a content strategy is so important.
👉🏽Having a solid mix of content to keep your audience’s attention.
👉🏽Always experimenting and testing what’s working and what’s not.
👉🏽Easing the frustration you feel when you “don’t know what to post.” And keeps you consistent.
Stop worrying about the algorithm. 🤮
And start crafting a strategy.
(PS It doesn’t have to be complex)
Who out there has a content strategy?
Who would LOVE one but doesn’t know where to start?

HOW TO AVOID BURNOUT + OVERWHELM ⚡️
What if I told you that you didn’t need more time but instead you needed to manage your time more wisely? 🤔
If you have another job or other commitments, time isn’t going to magically appear. Shucks. 😫
Your to-do list is never going to get shorter as a biz owner (sorry to break the news).🤪
But you CAN avoid burnout and overwhelm. #tellmemore
Trust me, I’ve had my fair share of both in my side hustle days (still do.)
Yes, there are times, the hustle has to happen and your week feels like a blur.
But that does NOT have to be the norm.
Whattya gotta do?
1️⃣ You need to focus.
No plan, no focus, no direction.
If you’re trying to do 474882 things (who dis?? 😛) you don’t have the focus you need to get sh*t done.
If you don’t know the steps you need to take to move the needle (aka make dat $) or hit your goals, you may be taking steps in the wrong direction or even worse, never take the first step to begin with.
I’m hosting a virtual 2019 Planning Party on Wednesday night if you wanna feel more confident in your direction + focus for the year.
Plus gain clarity on the goals you (may or may not have 😉) set this year. (Link in bio to get your spot!)
2️⃣ You need to plan your week.
I created my own magic method for overcoming the overwhelm + burnout and it works if you actually do it. 😏
The hustle⚡️thrive method. .
It’s literally what saved me during the side hustle days. I’m not exaggerating.🤪
Choose what days are hustle (aka work on your biz days) and what days are thrive (aka spending it with fam, self-care, all da good sh*t).
Set three focuses areas for your week.
Set three tasks each day.
If I take the time to map out my week, I’ve taken the time to set my focus and priorities so that it’s not ALL in my head. It takes <10 minutes usually, no excuses. 😏
You can get these notepad sets (only a few left) over at www.kilohandco.com.
Now tell meeee, who’s planning our their week today? 💃🏻

::Friday introduction:: since I have never done one before & all the other small business people I love seem to have done this already!
I’m Katie Doucette, and I was born & raised in Saugatuck, MI. I still live there with my husband & 2 kids & 2 dogs. I am the founder of polka dot mitten.
I started PDM in 2013 on a whim, after our family friend/sales rep told me she would sell my art to gift shops if I made a catalog for her. She wasn’t kidding. A year later my art was in numerous shops all over MI and I had an additional sales rep! It has been a complete trial and error experience with plenty of tears along the way. Sadly, my first sales rep, Sue, passed away 5 years ago this week from cardiac arrest while my brother was undergoing emergency open heart surgery. That led us to donate a portion of our sales each and every month to the Wes Leonard Heart Team so they can buy AED devices for schools. We’ve been doing that for almost 5 years now, thanks to all of you, who have supported us continually.
Today I have 4 assistants who help me in the studio every week. They deal with my scatterbrained, organized chaos daily. We have a ton of fun, though, and work is really more like hanging out with friends. I appreciate them so much!
Aside from polka dot mitten, I also license my artwork to big companies who sell it nationwide. It’s my 2nd job and you can learn more about that on my other page @katiecreatie !
Just wanted you to know these little facts behind the art & products I promote every day. :) Thanks for continuing to be a part of what I do!

I'm spending my day so damn grateful. 🙌🏽
I don't feel 34. 😬
Sometimes I don't act 34. 🤪
I'm just figuring this life thing out as I go.
This time last year I was in a completely different place.
and my biz was in a completely different stage.
SO much can happen in ONE year.
If you just believe. Believe in your damn self. 👊🏽
I'm so grateful I took the jump.
I chose my own happiness.
I didn't have another option.
The world needs more happy people.
The world needs more people doing what they love.
The last year was a wild ride.
And I have high hopes for 34.
Let's do the damn thing. ⚡️

Cheers to 34. 😬
Everyone has been posting their #10yearchallenge photos/transformations and honestly, when I look back at me back then...
I don't see a drastic change.
I've lost myself along the way in this thing called life but I'm always finding my way back. 👊🏽
Yes, I've traded in late nights for cozy night ins.
And I've swapped my beer for kombucha these days.
But I'm still the same ambitious, hard-working Capricorn.
Still up for an adventure.
Still contemplating what life even means.
Still the same goofy, hot mess. 🤪
So here's to another year of continuing to get a little more "me".
Society would tell me that at 34 I should have a house full of littles and a corner office by now.
But the universe has it's own plan.
And I'm along for the ride.
Excited to see where this year takes me.
If you're one of those women who dread your birthday because you're not where you "should" be, know you're exactly where you need to be.
There is more to come and more to you.
a girl with dream

Last summer, Friday's meant working at the day job from early morning to the afternoon then driving straight to the Dixboro Farmers Market that started at 3. I was usually tired, smelled like vegan bacon, but fueled by coffee from @ypsifoodcoop and cheese samples from @thecheesepeoplecoloradosprings .
I met Sandy at this market but didn't really think anything of it. He loved Teffola and we would usually end up talking about everything food related. He practically single handedly got me into @argusfarmstop this past fall where the community there has embraced Teffola. I can barely keep up with the demand. .
If you have an idea, test it. If you have an opportunity, take it. If you're slightly hesitant but know there's something there, go for it. There's only one way to find out what it could become. .
Double tap if you've been to Argus! Teffola is pictured here with @maconcreekmalt - fellow producers doing delicious things :)
