I figured out quickly after arriving the real reason I came here: to run away from my failures of 2018. Prove I didn’t care that both the job I loved and the man I loved didn’t want me. Eight months later, I see how it’s left me unwilling to commit to anything. Unwilling to pour my heart and soul into something that could unexpectedly abandon you at any moment.
I’ve gone back to fearing one of life’s toughest truths: we have no control.
And to cope, I’ve been numbing myself yet again with food.
After losing my Dad and my marriage, it took a while for me to stop fearing life’s unpredictability. I turned then to food as the ultimate distraction. How frustrating to see that I’m back here again.
Yesterday evening I walked through the city for several hours. I imagined the delight my 10-year old self would have at knowing I was here. She didn’t know I’d feel so afraid of loving anything because I knew I could lose it. She never dreamed the magic of this city would be wasted on me.
As I thought on it, I realized that she wouldn’t care. She’d possibly even love it: take out her notebook and begin writing about a heroine who rediscovers loving life ...in Paris, the perfect storybook setting.
Today, I decided to try looking at this moment through her romantic eyes: a woman on a journey to find trust in the universe again. And to start by putting down her favorite numbing agent: food.
Eat to enjoy life, not to escape it.

Did you know that your brain is split into left and right brains and they are totally different from one another? When one side is working in harmony with the other and each knows it’s role you will be more balanced and whole.
Are you working from your conscious or your unconscious?
95 percent of brain activity is beyond our conscious awareness. Numerous cognitive neuroscientists have conducted studies that have revealed that only 5% of our cognitive activities (decisions, emotions, actions, behaviour) is conscious whereas the remaining 95% is generated in a non-conscious manner.
Imagine what this means for you? The majority of the time you are not consciously aware of your thoughts, choices or patterns.
This can result is missing cues from others we interact with. Friends, family, customers. Or having a brain worm of negativity working away at your self confidence.
When we work in the conscious we are more likely to notice these and then have an opportunity to rectify them.
So today be more conscious of the conversations you have, the choices you make and the thoughts running around in your head.
