Aujourd’hui, ma grande question, c’est « et les livres d’occasion ? ».
Alors ? Vous en achetez souvent, des livres d’occasion ?
Je sais que beaucoup n’aiment pas quand un livre est un peu abîmé, qu’il n’est pas neuf, que l’odeur du neuf est altérée... mais permettez-moi de vous lister les raisons pour laquelle les livres d’occasion, ça devrait vraiment être systématique ;

Serious toddler lurgy seems to have put a stop to everything this week 😷 so much so I almost forgot to show you all this beautiful gift from Nanny & Grandad 😍👵🏻👴🏻 found at a local antiques fair . Got to love the classics right ? 🥰📚📚(scuse the rumpled bedding, puts me in mind of a screwed up tissue which I think is rather appropriate this week 😂) .

Synopsis: As a young man, Haruki Murakami played records and mixed drinks at his Tokyo Jazz club, Peter Cat, then wrote at the kitchen table until the sun came up. He loves music of all kinds—jazz, classical, folk, rock—and has more than six thousand records at home. And when he writes, his words have a music all their own, much of it learned from jazz. Jay Rubin, a self-confessed fan, has written a book for other fans who want to know more about this reclusive writer. He reveals the autobiographical elements in Murakami's fiction, and explains how he developed a distinctive new style in Japanese writing. In tracing Murakami's career, he uses interviews he conducted with the author between 1993 and 2001, and draws on insights and observations gathered from over ten years of collaborating with Murakami on translations of his works.
Sorrisi smaglianti per Melissa e la sua amica Valentina, che hanno scelto di posare rispettivamente con "Il partigiano Johnny" di Beppe Fenoglio e "Il vagabondo delle stelle" di Jack London.

Once you start The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, there's no turning back. This debut thriller--the first in a trilogy from the late Stieg Larsson--is a serious page-turner rivaling the best of Charlie Huston and Michael Connelly. Mikael Blomkvist, a once-respected financial journalist, watches his professional life rapidly crumble around him. Prospects appear bleak until an unexpected (and unsettling) offer to resurrect his name is extended by an old-school titan of Swedish industry. The catch--and there's always a catch--is that Blomkvist must first spend a year researching a mysterious disappearance that has remained unsolved for nearly four decades. With few other options, he accepts and enlists the help of investigator Lisbeth Salander, a misunderstood genius with a cache of authority issues. Little is as it seems in Larsson's novel, but there is at least one constant: you really don't want to mess with the girl with the dragon tattoo. --𝘿𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝘾𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙣
Let's forget about the 5000 #books we have in store all at just £1 each for a minute and concentrate on the next batch of vinyl that I've just sourced. 60 more #lps to add to the hundreds we have in stock.
Just finished the heavy, inspiring, Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl, the work of a psychiatrist who survived four concentration camps and established a school of psychotherapy (called logotherapy) that centers around helping patients finding meaning in life.
Frankl uses a psychological perspective to examine the horrific realities of his experience in the Holocaust. This book serves both as a testament to human resiliency and, in the second section detailing the basics of logotherapy, a guidebook on how to find that resiliency and purpose through connection to and service of others. I’m overwhelmed by Frankl’s story and his bravery recounting it, and recommend Man’s Search for Meaning highly. #bookstagram#readstagram#nonfiction#plantsofinstagram#instareads#psychology#philosophy#bookreview

Charity auction. Bought this @picadorbooks copy of Denis Johnson’s Already Dead for £2.99 in @oxfambooksm21 yesterday. As you can see, his name is misspelled on the spine. Apparently he wasn’t best pleased and it was corrected when reprinted. Johnson died of liver cancer in 2017. What am I bid for this book? Highest bid at midday next Tuesday wins. If the winner then pays that amount to a cancer charity of their choice, I will send them the book. (Or they can pay me and I’ll donate the money to a cancer charity of my choice.) #denisjohnson#picador#oxfam#foundinoxfam#secondhandbooks#bookstagram

Yesterday’s book haul from @bartsbooksojai 🥰 So excited for all of these, especially Conversations With Friends—I’ve been wanting to read one of Sally Rooney’s books for so long! The shop was as rad & lovely as I thought it would be, and I got all of these beauties secondhand like new for under $25.
Super sad that it was time for @galacticfoxx & Juniper to fly home today 😔, so to cheer myself up, I’m planning a real cozy day filled with fuzzy sweaters and blankets and warm beverages and puppy snugs and sunshine and the sound of turning pages. ☕️🐾🌞📖 Starting with finishing up the first half of Beale Street (so good) for book club tomorrow, and then on to one of these. 🤗
Have you read any of them? Which one should I start with??
Скорее бы закончилась зима! На календаре - весна. А на улице до сих пор снег, и даже мороз...
Winter would be over soon! On the calendar - spring. And on the street there is still snow, and even frost .
I haven’t really been feeling myself lately so I decided to do something that always makes me feel like myself before my hair appointment — peruse a bookstore. So I decided to head to a used bookstore I’ve always wanted to check out.
Venturing into the world without Riley made me realize how lacking my social skills are as I announce to the (really awesome) guy behind the counter that “I’m not a creeper taking photos of all the books I swear. I just like to take pictures of books for an Instagram I have...about books...because I like books.” Oh god I should just not talk lol. But I am not a confident in-public bookstagrammer especially solo sooooo.
My rusty chattering aside...this trip was great and I found a gem of a used bookstore for all you Philly area people. It was the most organized used bookstore I’ve ever been to with an amazing selection!! Literally just every section was filled to the brim with books I wanted to read or newer releases on my radar. Very clean and bright and airy.
So yeah, it was a good way to spend some rare free time. I hate feeling not very sparkly and excited about much of anything. It’s just not me and I hate feeling like I’m not me right now. I’ve realized it’s really easy for me to get lost in my day to day of motherhood (something that I have enjoyed learning more about myself because of) that I forget what I enjoy and what I need. So, I will just keep on keeping on getting my sparkle back.
Do you have any good used bookstores near you? Do you find book shopping as therapeutic as I do?

“Some say they get lost in books, but I find myself, again and again, in the pages of a good book. Humanly speaking, there is no greater teacher, no greater therapist, no greater healer of the soul, than a well-stocked library.”
I’m off for most of the day volunteering for the local symphony. I get to see Peter & The Wolf in the midst of it all. Are you up to anything good this weekend?

Onto book two of March already, and I’m tackling my fear of non-fiction with one that a lot of people seem to be loving right now! Including my bestie @jobis89 who I trust and knows my taste well ☺️ And indeed, so far I’m enjoying it! I’m just reading it without constantly thinking ‘this is non-fiction’, her writing is smooth, and as it’s a memoir there aren’t a load of facts to put me off - it is a story, just someone’s true story (and I have a feeling it’s going to get brutal!) Have you read this one?
I had a lovely spa day yesterday, and then this morning my sister and I had a nice walk along the front while my niece fell asleep in her pram ☺️ I got some strange looks taking lots of outdoor photos, but I’m getting good at not caring 😏
Big thanks to Emma @mistyangelofsky for gifting me her copy of Educated as I’d been wanting to try it 😍

Do you collect any particular editions of books/particular authors?
Ned bought me my first #AgathaChristie (a secondhand copy of #MurderOnTheOrientExpress ) nearly 5 years ago + ever since I have been collecting mostly secondhand editions of any Christies I come across. My collection has grown quite a lot but I still have a few to get before I have all of them!
