Best use for textbooks! Challenged the kids to design and build a model table to hold all the food I’m going to eat at Thanksgiving dinner. This led into why cylinders make the strongest supports, which led us into why trees are round. The winner held 44 books! 📚🦃⚙️🌳 #science#stem#engineering#elementary#scienceteacher
This week in 5th grade we learned about compasses by making a hanging and water compass. After saying about 20x we know the earth has a magnetic field because a compass points north I think about half the kids could tell you that the earth has a magnetic field 🤦♀️🤷♀️Time for a five day break!
It worked! This is the wood edging on my work-in-progress bulletin board. I could cut the wood trim with scissors AND staple it! Today is our last day before Thanksgiving break - I was testing in all my courses, which means I've been sitting & grading alllllllll day. So when my last period prep period come about guess what I did? NOT grade! I had to get up + move + use my brain in other ways = bulletin board time! 🤗 #brainbreak! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We reviewed a finished geologic timeline today. We watched a TEDtalk about a paleontologist speaking about finding dinosaur bones and the geologic time scale of events. We wrapped up the class by beginning a mind map about fossils! Students were assigned the task and asked to researched independently on main ideas surrounding fossils. I’m loving seeing students creativity and connections to fossils. I’ll post pictures of student examples after vacation! I printed some “bones” so we can make different styles of fossils after vacation. I started adding a social target to our learning target and ALL of my classes were rockstars today! Students were focused and productive! We went out on vacation on a high note... or as my son would say “awesomesauce!” Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving! #science#scienceteacher#geologictime#geology#paleontology#dinosaurs#fossils#socialtarget#thankfulformystudents
It's that time! Link in bio to find out whether #methane is worse than #co2... And why! Also you'll get to see me in the best/worst outfit I think I have ever sported. So that's pretty educational too.
