Was informed about the #blackkamagic week by @dr_kirtika_panda and I promised I would look for a #throwback black saree pic... This one is from the #Diwali2018 week..
Black coarse #handloomcotton whose origin I have no idea of as it was bought when I was 25 and totally unaware of the vast myriad of the handlooms of our country.. I just remember buying it from a state handloom emporium on MG Road Bangalore...............I am sure black is everyone’s go-to colour when a little unsure of what to wear...———————————————— #handloomsarees#sareesofinstagram#beenstergramsarees

I know it's been a while since May 😁 So this is a late post. This was from the 10 sarees that I had borrowed from Aaji - my grandmom in law. There is a lot that I have learnt from her in the past few years. Her optimism, cheerful attitude, kindness, sense of humor, curiosity and progressive thinking, make her a really lovable person. Recently a friend of mine who saw my pictures in Aaji's sarees, commented that Aaji must love me a lot to open up her wardrobe to me like this. So yes, I am indeed lucky! 😊
Aaji usually wears silks or cottons. Soft unstarched cottons are her favorite in the past few years. Her wardrobe speaks of the simplicity of a wife, mother and a grandmother who always put her family before her. Most of her sarees are gifts and she is always the sort who likes to buy something for others before even thinking of buying something for herself. I really enjoyed the 10 saree days (actually 13 because I wore a few sarees on more than 1 day) in May!
I thought I should also share a few photos of Aaji in a few of these sarees. She is the sort who laughs and smiles before a photo is clicked but not at the moment when it's being clicked. But thankfully my constant nagging to make her smile in photos has yielded some results over the years and that's why you see her laughing in a few photos now 😁
I tried different draping styles with the 10 sarees and if you notice I used the same tops or blouses with multiple sarees. And this shows that you really don't need separate blouses for each saree. So let that not deter you from picking up that saree from the wardrobe that's waiting to be draped! 😊 A lot of people think I have huge number of matching blouses and that's why I can drape any borrowed saree with a blouse that matches. That's really far from the truth. In fact, these days I am quite biased towards my white shirts and tops and pair them with almost everything! 😉

Let me give up the need to know why things happen as they do. I may never know and constant wondering in a loop will just whack my peace.
I've decided to be damn proud of the days when I manage to show up with a smile on my face.
Life is not linear; but I can try to stay the course of calm... minus any drama.

128/2019: Roughly two years ago, I began documenting my saree collection on Instagram. Some thousand posts later, it has been quite an incredible journey and a learning experience for me.
One aspect of social media that continues to mar the experience is the amount of creepy followers with questionable motives. I block hundreds each week yet more turn up. They follow other similar profiles and if not blocked, end up harassing many of us. Instagram shuts down some profiles when we report them. But overall seems unconcerned about addressing a larger issue. Sure, we can make our profiles private but we choose not to run and hide.
I prefer not to engage, not interested in seeing where the 'hai nyc pic' goes. Comments are deleted and profiles blocked. We were discussing how one profile photo is that of Sai Baba but the profiles they follow - over 5,000 - are all dodge as hell.
Be vigilant, understand a cleaning up of your follower list protects the rest of us, don't engage and encourage, appreciate people flagging these idiots to you, and move on.
If you are up for it, screenshot messages. And share with their family and friends. Colleagues. Find out where they work and report to their bosses. Give them a taste of their own medicine.
In a quirky saree fit for the mood - a crisp cotton calendar saree that Tarang brought over to my office in Singapore when she landed. Grateful for this #giftoflove and the special effort. With Rabindranath Tahore on the palla, see Stories for more. Worn with an old kurti and silver jewellery including payals. Village belle look.
