Those of you that know me, know that I am not a morning person at all 😂 but some days I can make an exception!
The Sahara Desert at dawn is quite magical! 💛 The light, the soft breeze and the silence makes it so peaceful.
Now tell me, are you an early bird or a night owl?! 🐦🦉
One my favourite adventures is when I slept in the Sahara Desert while visiting Morocco. It started when I was walking around in the Medina in Marrakech, where in between the street hecklers calling me every famous black dude from Barack Obama to Rick Ross that a dude asked me if I wanted to go to the Sahara desert (its not as shady as it sounds he was very professional Lool ). Now I had actually wanted to go visit the Sahara during my time there but hadn’t yet figured out a plan as to how I was gonna get there and figured I would figure it out once I got to Morocco. So like an act of fate the opportunity was now right in front of me, so I just said yes. The next morning, I met him at a street corner as we waited for his other passengers. I had imagined I would be in a mini bus or part of a massive group but it was just me and one Chinese dude and these two Spanish girls, we hopped in his car and off we went -
We travelled in that car for 7 hours on the winding roads that weaved through the Atlas Mountains. Stopping every so often to explore and take pictures. When we got to the edge of the desert we then switched from car to camel and travelled for an hour on camelback to our camp. While on my camel, as the sun slowly dropped below the horizon, it then began to dawn on me that I had literally travelled 7 hours to spend the night in the middle of a desert, in a foreign country, with a dude off the street and a bunch of strangers I had met that morning and there was no cell or WiFi signal in sight ... ADVENTURE (or the height of stupidity)
But it was worth it because that night I saw more stars cover the sky than I had ever seen, we sang and danced around the campfire with the Bedouin tribe people, and in the morning saw the sunrise illuminate the surrounding sea of sand like it was liquid gold...It was LIT fam 🔥 #SnapchatMemories#Adventure#Travel#SaharaDesert#Morocco

Top Shot: Have All Your Camels in a Row | Photograph by Gonzalo Corral
#YourShotPhotographer Gonzalo Corral photographed this camel caravan in the Sahara Desert. Your Shot Producer David Y. Lee writes, “I love #YourShotPhotographer Kimberly Coates’s comment: ‘Wow, what a fabulous shot! I once rode camels in a Berber caravan through the Sahara, and it was a magical experience, so this takes me back! Your shot is very subtle, but packs a punch. I love the soft tones and shadows cast by the variable sand dunes. I also love how you chose to frame the camels off to the right with the trees balancing out the frame on the left. Great work, Gonzalo.’” This image was selected for the Daily Dozen on October 15, 2018.
