We like a good road trip, especially when oysters are involved. Our Grid team, led by @nickdavisphoto, recently spent the day with friends at @rroysters in Topping, VA. In 2001, Travis and Ryan Croxton set out to revive their grandfather’s oyster company at a time when the Chesapeake Bay had just recorded its lowest oyster harvest in history. At that time, most of the oysters being processed in the Bay were being trucked in from the Gulf of Mexico. The Croxton’s set out to resurrect the native Bay oyster and put it back on the map. Today, Virginia is seeing harvest tallies not witnessed in a generation. In fact, we now lead the entire East Coast in oyster production. Thanks the Croxton’s fam and other farmers, chefs, patrons, and activists, the Chesapeake once again enjoys its place among the great oyster regions of the world.

Because food is my comfort, I always make an extra effort to bring snacks to a branding kick off session even as a participant. In my head, it’s a little offering to create a sacred space - safe, comfortable and judgement free room to encourage sharing and listening from all involved.
A branding discovery process can often be powerfully emotional without warning (your ‘why’ is deeply rooted to who you are) and long discussions and series of questions can feel like a lot. But I spent the morning listening to Angeline of @scoutrva gently guiding the group down our discovery journey for @bateaurva uncovering layers of branding elements that gave us chills, made us laugh and daydream beautiful things together.
I am learning so much about the history of our city from Harry and @arvatmcclaine and loving how @helenreeddesign is creating a space to bring their vision to reality on historic Riverfront Canal Walk. I can’t wait to hear more, read more and share more. Heart centered, is how I feel after this morning. ✨🙏🏼✨
