Noble Canyon 50K is in the books. "Just finish" was the goal given that I'm not at 100% but if I'm being honest with myself I still wanted to finish in under 7 hours. 6:59:30 counts 😂. Thanks to Brian at @cliffsandmeadows for putting on a great race and thanks to all the volunteers at the aid stations for taking great care of us. And thanks most of all to my wife @e._a._espino for her continued support of this crazy thing that I do and for coming all the way out to Pine Valley with our daughter Harper so they could see me finish. #noblecanyon50k
Saturday trail run/hike up to Storm Mountain in Ferguson Canyon! Well, attempted to. 😂. This trail hasn't had a ton of trail maintenance over the years and required some bush whacking. We got about 3/4 of the way
Today was a day where the mountain won.
@batshan05 and I set out to complete a really hard 24 mile loop, with 7153 ft in gain. The first 4.8 miles encompassed ~4400ft of gain. It was steep and tough and took longer than we anticipated, having responsibilities and budgeted time for the 24 miles...needless to say, we switched to time on feet and decided we would be good w whatever after that sick climb. We ended up w about 17 miles in just under 5 hours. And both had our asses handed to us.
We had TONS of fun (if you saw my stories, you saw some of the fun) and it was a great time, even though @batshan05 wished for the sweet release of death when we had totalled about 5300 gain (after our turnaround, we had to go back up a bit) and we didn't make it the complete loop, it's still a huge accomplishment w the amount of climb.
Long story short, we grossly overestimated our abilities, severely underestimated this route and score ended at:
A little “after” and “before” action here with @andreamcaffee from a couple of weeks back. I’ve spent the past couple of months in almost constant communication with this woman. We have shared excitement, laughter, anxieties, tears, miles, and war stories in that time. It’s been nearly as much fun as the event itself, and much more fun in some regards. When I look back on this summer, it’s these relationships that I will treasure. Somehow, in a short amount of time, I’ve made some of the greatest connections of my life. As summer erupts into fall, I feel like I need to thank my trail community in general, and this sweet sister in particular, for the fantastic season. 💙 .

I had so much fun running up and down this trail. First did it with no camera and then came back with one, because I thought it was so pretty.
“In our contemporary world we have split off visual beauty from the greater experience of nature, and in doing so we have forfeited a beauty far more lively and robust. To know that greater beauty requires the exercise of more than the eyes, and it can’t be done at a distance. It takes time, sweat, and sometimes pain, a willingness to enter the land and to engage it. Backpackers, birders, hunters, fishers, climbers, river runners, tree sitters, homesteaders, small farmers...and backwoods lunatics are more likely to know this beauty than those who only stop their cars at scenic vistas. They won’t automatically know it—there are climbers who are only about bagging peaks, birders keener on lists than on birds, ranchers to whom grass is little more than poundage of beef—but the fullness of natural beauty is potentially available to them. They have the opportunity to become part, for a time, of places that onlookers can only observe.” —John Daniel’s “Climbing into Life”

Sometimes I wonder what it’s like to be “normal”. I mean, do those people even have fun? #letsgorun#keepup
My weather forecast for this weekend?? 50% chance of puddle jumping... and if you’re legs aren’t as long as mine... you’ve got a 75% chance of wet feet all weekend... but there’s a 100% chance of sunshine when you’ve got friends and family like mine to spend the weekend with!! Also... it’s the first day of fall! Yaayyyy!!!! 📸: @briceferre#trailrunning#puddlejumping#rainydays#fall 🍁

Almost Seven Years + over 10,000 Miles Shared // That’s a lot of side eye glances we’ve given one another! Charlotte + I are so similar, it’s weeeeeeird. We share the same quirks, isms, neurosis, and polarizing personality, the same hyper active wishes and needs to be outside, hopefully sharing time with the ones we love. We like to be close but not tooooo close. Of course, this means, we also meet each other with the same BIG deep limitless protective love. I know there isn’t anything we wouldn’t do to protect one another. Once, Charlotte, all 50 pounds of her, defended me from a mountain lion out on the trail. It was New Year’s Eve at dusk and the sun was melting a thousand oranges into the snow and then there was an orange ya don’t wanna see. And, me, well 95% of all our trail interactions are absolutely wonderful but there are a few douche muffin dogs out there with equally douchey owners (y’all Bozeman folks know which Akita I’m talking ‘bout), I’ve charged attacking dogs myself, my own teeth bared, growling at ‘em and making a scene - cause they don’t get to touch Miss Charlotte Ray. Not sayin she’s perfect, we’ve worked reeeeal hard at our trail etiquette +culture over the years but Charlotte recently took down a deer on the most popular trail in Montana, I thought we’d be written up in every trail forum out there, ‘vicious hound + psycho ginger’ kill deer for shits + giggles. Fortunately, the deer popped up and although I was mortified, I mean, I was also a little proud - I mean - Char’s not a big dog, she just likes to think big. Grateful for every adventure I get with this hound dog, from the mountain trails, 30 mile runs to neighborhood block walks, to the floppy ears hanging her head out of the passenger truck window as we run errands around town or just sawing logs next to me as I edit pictures. She is truly my by-my-side-girl. #misscharlotteray#adventuresshared

Yesterday Kat and I had plans to climb to Buckskin Pass and back. We were 15 minutes from the trailhead at 6:10 am and a lady stopped us and told us the parking lot was full, we could park in the overflow and a shuttle will be coming at 7 am. We were like ok, that sucks...50 minutes but oh well, whatchu gonna do. Well...we waited around for 50 minutes in the biggest cluster fuck I've ever experienced. No one was at the ticket booth, people kept showing up and there was no one to tell us when the next shuttle was actually coming except that most were saying not until 8 am! Kat and I were like EFF THIS, let's just find something else to do, we are not waiting around for another hour just to not even get on this bus cause there are to many damn people here. So we scoured the deep dark web for a trail that would get us a good distance that wasn't from the same trailhead and found one that said it was 20 minutes away, escaped the crowds AND there was no fee. SCORE. We showed up literally not knowing what to expect and it ended up being one of the most beautiful and challenging trails we both have been on. The colors were amazing, the climbs were excruciating (even more so since we were both really tired) and we topped out on East Snowmass Pass (12,684 feet) with the most glorious views (and 4,200 vert in 7 miles)! It was not the adventure that we planned, but it was definitely the adventure we needed. #SalomonSquad#TimeToPlay 📷: @trail_kat
