I feel like I may collapse but 28km done! 😅 I was concentrating so much I forgot to take a picture so this shot sums up what was going on in my head, pretending it was warmer, brighter and shorter! 😄 Instead I got rain, wind and fog - but done is done whatever the weather!
Early morning run along the East River. I wasn’t a runner while living in NY so I’m only discovering the many good routes and running groups now, visits heavily interspersed with old friends and city love and staying up way too late in ways not conducive to these early runs. The best of life collisions! ✨
Forgot to take a pic, but... I was focused on taking the longest run of my life so far. The weather was wonderful (low 60s, <90% humidity, occasional breezes) and I woke up hungry but needing to run. So, I ran. You can see on the map where I needed short breaks, and I wish I’d had the legs to get the whole way back to start, but was feeling crampy for the first time in over a year. So, I stopped when I did. Feeling proud and awesome all the same.
There are many misperceptions in the running world. One is that you have to run every day and lots of miles to improve. Sososososo false! It is true that that works for some but not for everyone. Everybody has to find their sweet spot/happy medium.
For me, running 2x/week works very well. I do a short easy run on wednesdays, usually. Then my long run at close to perceived race pace on sundays. This allows me to enjoy running more; its not a chore. It is something i look forward too. .
How do i improve then?.....cross training!! Biking, swimming, and strength has allowed me to become stronger and build my endurance. I cannot run many miles because of my knee issues and I want to be able to run my whole life which means being smart about my training now!
Today, i did my longest run since January; 6 miles! Only 4 more to go to get to my October distance race #tc10mile ! I love that my legs feel fresh each time i go out because of the space between run workouts! .
What is your happy medium?
Y’all with the weird sprinkler schedules: you the real MVP. Switching it up and doing my easy run today and long run tomorrow. I slept in this morning thanks to an exhausting work week. Truly, the key to running while working as a full time bedside nurse is FLEXIBILITY! You definitely can’t be successful without it. And for all my nurse brothers and sisters, just remember that even on your worst days, you’re still doing a damn good thing. ❤️

It is way harder than I thought it would be not to push through the pain and go for a run!✖️I know I’m injured, but every fiber in me just wants to run 1 mile...✖️😵☠️🚴🏽♂️ #biking
15 am miles for #longrunsaturday !🏃🏻♀️You would think by this point 15 would be a breeze, but nope! Still hard.😂Especially during the last 5 that were supposed to be fast.🙈I ended up taking yesterday off, not something I would normally do, but trying to listen to my body when it needs a little extra rest! At least one my dogs seemed happy to see me when I got home🤣🐾my #bostonterrier Polu is not impressed per usual!
