Sunglasses...jacket...you know what that means:
1) I ran outside.
2) My phone died almost immediately in the cold and I didn’t get a photo during the run.
I was a bit nervous before this run- nervous about being cold (yes, I know it’s not that cold out). Nervous about ice. Nervous about my asthma. Nervous about whether it would aggravate my leg. It has just been awhile since I’ve done my own runs outside.
But, I bundled up, used my inhaler, and took the pace very easy, focussing on keeping good form. I thought of it as a long run, and ended up doing a rather slow 7k. I’m happy with that- my cardio felt fine, there was only mild leg discomfort and the sole instances I walked was when I was gingerly picking my way over ice.
This was my longest run since the Tannenbaum and even though it was slow, it felt great just getting outside. Right now I’m able to do two of my own runs per week + crosstraining/strength + a couple easy 3-4K runs with a novice group I’m leading. Fingers crossed I’ll be able to resume my regular training by the end of February.
