It’s getting colder here and I’m trying to layer up so my comfy linen can be worn for as long as possible before it’s back to the jeans... and these really are the king of comfort #robertscollection dungarees by @marillawalker in @merchantandmills linen.
Day 5 - 15 minutes of sewing. So on my todo list for day 5 was ‘sort out the shamozzle that is the side section of my pinafore dress’. I’ve had lots of trouble with this bit. The button holes, the way it fits together etc. So I’ve redone it and re-sewn the side seam and it’s still pretty wonky but I’m ready to move on from this unfinished item now. It’s been around for ages and actually I’m quite happy with most of it. So I’m drinking wine now. Game over. Job done. Mission accomplished. #15minutesofsewing#sewing#dressmaking#robertscollection#memade#pinaforedress#linen#linendress
Black clothes are impossible to photograph! But wanted to share my love for the #robertscollection jumpsuit by @marillawalker - used a black ponte and cut a straight size 3 with no changes. I was so happy with the result I wore it to give a presentation to 100 people (now I'm *fairly* sure my makes aren't going to fall apart on me, wearing me-made gives me extra confidence). Such a brilliant set of patterns - thank you, Marilla 😍

How I wear my handmades, my outfit of the day this cold but sunny Monday. I spent the day wandering around my old stomping ground in Liverpool!
🏞️🏰 Sefton Park and Bold Street are two of my favourite places (but the Palm House was closed 😭). I used to come to this park after work and wander around with an ice cream (sometimes in questionably 🍦 appropriate weather!) and had fun exploring once again even if it was just for the day.
Outfit details: linen Roberts collection dungarees, Mandy boat tee (layered underneath) and ribbed knit Rise Turtleneck. Plus my Hampton jean jacket on top.
Also lots of sewing is happening behind the scenes, fear not! I managed to squeeze the pieces for another pair of Roberts collection dungarees and a Pippi pinafore out of a 2.7m linen remnant I picked up in Abakhan Mostyn at the weekend. It's a French navy colour and I think the pinafore will be great for work (especially with those pockets!). As for the dungarees, now I've sussed out how to style them for Winter I couldn't say no to another pair. I wear my current green and navy ones all the time so it'll be nice to have another colour (even if it is another blue 💙) to add to the mix.

Day 1 - 15 minutes a day: yesterday was a long day and I was super tired but last night I managed to set my machine up and do some practice button holes ready to work on my #robertscollection pinafore dress tonight. Also got a chance to try out the gorgeous seam ripper that @melicious.intentions gave me for my 40th birthday. Thanks love! It’s awesome! Baby steps but it got me moving which is the main thing! #sewing#memade#babysteps#findingtime#dressmaking
Just a couple of details from my #robertscollection dungarees. I used a fab medium weight denim from @fabricgodmother I don't know how to properly explain it but the wrong side of the fabric is yellow/gold which makes for great contrast turn ups and gives the right side yellowy undertones. Totally impossible to photograph! I used a yellow quilting weight fabric for the bib and back facing. #robertscollectiondungarees
The jumpsuit of the Roberts Collection I made last month turned out quite nice - but I'll make one a bit smaller and in more drapey fabric. Love the Eighties vibe of it though! It reminds me of the Dutch girl bands - like Luv and The Dolly Dots 🤗 - I used to listen to as a child back then.
Specifications: I am a size 38 (95/78/100) and made a size 4, although I took out some width at body and legs, so it may be more of a 3. Used 2 meters of 1.5 meters wide fabric.
Was lucky enough to visit @abakhanfabrics while in Manchester today and picked up some fab brown baby cord and yellow Jersey. I was thinking #robertscollection jumpsuit and #hemlocktee - but looking at the fabric just now I've got one thought echoing round my head. BROWNIE UNIFORM. Aaaargh. I'm still making both but I don't think I'll be wearing them together!
My new @marillawalker pinafore from the #robertscollection - first time using one of her patterns, and it was a total joy. I graded from 3 at the top to 4 for the skirt - not sure I needed to but I'm loving the freedom of movement. 😁 Also decided to use tape and eyelets instead of straps and buttons, which worked well. And v pleased to use this stretch denim which had been sitting in my stash for about 3 years... #sewing#sewistsofinstagram#memadeeveryday
Current #workinprogress, pic taken in the dark so massively filtered to try and show the colour. Second pair of #robertscollection dungarees. Last pair turned out way too big so have made some size adjustments. Fingers crossed I can still fit bump in 🤞
Made some linen overalls. They are the #robertscollection pattern by @marillawalker with a few tweaks (wider straps, no front pleats, no side opening, wider leg, tie top). Such a great pattern to play with! 📷 by Julia 😊 #fairdare

Second attempt at this pattern. But really, been wanting to make a pair in corduroy.
Put a hold on sewing the last few weeks but it’s time to get the ball rolling again ✊🏻
More Marilla Walker goodness, this time from #robertscollection view D. Sewn up in a charcoal medium weight linen from @tessutifabrics, the facings are pieced from some scraps @deeptisewsforsanity had leftover when we went on our sewing camp waaaaaay back in March. The buttons though.....they're my fave, they were purchased at a market in Italy a few years back for the grand total of €1 !! I decided to hand stitch this facing in the same way as i did with my Maya top, and i feel like it was worth the effort. Scroll right to the end for my favourite detail on the back! I finished this top a while back and it's been in high rotation ever since
And that's a wrap! I had so much fun participating in Me Made May and checking out some of the amazing participants from around the world. 🔹 I wore something I made every day and took photos of some things I'd never documented before, finished up some old projects (2 of those still to post), and learned a lot about how to best focus my time and energy into making things I want to wear, like my @marillawalker#robertscollection jumpsuit.
🔹 So happy to share this fulfilling hobby with you all -- thank you for following along! 😘 #mmmay18

I’ve made another #robertscollection#dungareedress by #marillawalker this time in a cotton/linen blend. I went down a size as the last one was a bit on the big side and took a couple of inches off the hem. If I used fabric this thin again I would interface where the snaps go, they need the thickness of denim between them. Thankfully I bought some decent snaps from a local sewing shop. Gorgeous bib and pocket facing with #outbackwifefabric 😍

After a fair bit of tweaking I finished my @marillawalker#robertscollection dungarees in ‘nutmeg’ linen from @merchantandmills. I added a pocket onto the front and lengthened and tapered the legs. If anyone wants me I’ll be in a field digging up potatoes 😉
I have also added in a headshot for my sister @louise_speck who thought it was wierd that a lot of the sewing peeps of instagram chop their heads off the photos. So in the spirit of @pipwilcoxceramics here is my 45 year old bare naked face 😊
Finished my #robertscollection dungarees made from the softest cotton ever (found upstairs at Stonemountain & Dau) Decided to make little tie loops rather than poppers. Perfect for our long transition into spring!
