ONE WEIRD TRICK TO FIX YOUR BREATHING!!
How is that for a click bait title? I’m sorry -couldn’t resist.🤦♂️
There are lots of benefits to diaphragmatic breathing. And I find this is the most simple way to cue people on how to do it properly.
Most people rely on apical breathing, meaning instead of using the diaphragm to engage in deep breathing, they rely on chest and neck muscular such as pectoralis minor, scalenes and sternocleidomastoid (SCM).
Have you ever seen someone during a moment of high stress take a deep breath and their shoulders go up to their ears? That’s an apical breath, instead of the rib cage expanding outwards ↔️ the rib cage primarily expands upwards ↕️.
Over time this can contribute to:
🔸tight neck musculature
🔸shortness of breathe
🔸increased stress levels
Steps to easy diaphragmatic breathing:
1️⃣Lay on a flat surface
2️⃣Stick a drinking straw in your mouth
3️⃣Relax your shoulders and place hands on abdomen
*Really focus on trying to feel the movement underneath your hands*
At first this may seem extremely difficult because your breath will be restricted, but don’t panic! Practice this for 5 minutes and over time it will become easier.

What is Thoracic Outlet Syndrome?🤔 It is a compression of the nerves, sometimes arteries, leaving the neck when entering into the upper limb through the thoracic outlet: the space between the collar bone and the upper ribs.
COMPRESSED NERVE = NUMBNESS The most telltale sign of TOS is numbness along the arm, inside of the forearm, and the hand🖐🏼- specifically the smallest two fingers.
