When I was a little girl, around 3-5ish I lived a ways outside of Iskut in a little cabin locals called Coyote Cabin, that my dad had purchased, on what I believe was leased land.
We made the huge move from warm, hardly-any-snow Nanaimo to coldddd, off grid living, no running water Northern BC. It was definitely a shock.
My mom and I spent some time alone as my dad was often away falling and we eventually moved here to Terrace, where I grew up. Some years later the cabin was burnt down and I didnt visit the area again until I was sbout 12 years old.... I have memories of a small field out front of the cabin, with a sea of purple fireweed blowing in the breeze. I would take my baths in a big metal wash tub that we filled with water pumped from the creek and warmed on the wood stove and eventually propane stove. I remember playing in an old VW van on the property near the treeline with my toys. I was an only child. I had dogs and the wilderness and some of my best memories were these early years up North.
This morning on our way back from Dease we found the property where our cabin once stood and drove in, its all overgrown now, and you cant even tell there was ever a cabin there, or a really neat treehouse where my dad would hang his meat and fish up high enough that the bears couldnt get it, or another outbuilding out back. You would never know many years ago a little girl lived there and laughed and played and learned in a land so vast and a life so simple.
I started walking through areas that looked a little more 'open', where I suspected maybe a building had once stood. I knew the general area of that old VW and headed that way and LOW AND BEHOLD, you guys.... I FOUND IT. And not only that, one of my old toys was in it well as our old propane stove tossed behind it.
My eyes welled up with tears at the memories of all those years gone by. I took my old toy and half a hanger that Im also sure belonged to us, as no ones inhabited that land in 30 years since we left. I have so many happy memories there. <3 Sure made me miss my dad so much.
Back in 1948 Wilhelm Karmann bought a VW Type 1 Sedan and converted it into a Convertible. He presented it at the VW factory, and it was with great success. In 1949 VW started production at the Karmann factory in Osnabrück. This 1961 looked so nice in read. Perfect for VW Wednesday.
