I recently began assessing the amount of plastic I have been using, especially single use plastic. I have been a diligent recycler for the last 20 years, but I have realized it is not enough. I looked at the phrase "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" a little closer and I have found out that I have been focusing a little bit too much on the recycle side of it. So last week I counted how many pieces of plastic in my recycle bin. 42 pieces, wow!!! I thought, not acceptable. So I am now challenging myself, over the next year to reduce the single use plastic, in my recycle bin, down to near 0 percent. I know it will be difficult. I will keep you posted of my progress. It would be great if you'd join me on this challenge, for our sake, the oceans and the planet. #reduce#reuse#recycle#eliminateplastic#reduceplastic#lovetheplanet

Summer fashion. Sleeves in summer? Only if it’s lace. This top was bought on @poshmark. Actually MOST of my wardrobe is now used or recycled to a) save money and b) reduce my environmental footprint. The manufacturing of new clothes impacts the Earth, and fabric is not easily recyclable, and it often ends up in landfills. Donate your clothes or buy used or sustainably made clothing when you can! #recycle#reuse#environmental#houston#poshmark#clothing#fashion#feminine

The most direct effect of plastic pollution is the imprisonment of animals in nets or large debris. It is a cause of significant mortality of marine mammals, turtles and birds. A second direct effect is ingestion, that concerns the entire food chain of the marine ecosystem.

It can be a tricky thing not to feel overwhelmed these days. I find my self frequently switching between hope and heartbreak. Most of the time I remain hopeful and inspired by all the incredible people working on solutions for our future & I am optimistic that we will continue to unite to make this happen. ⚪️
But then I listen to the news and I am reminded of our government & their inaction on climate and Adani and more. ⠀⚪️
I feel like communication is so important, & working on how we can communicate more effectively to reach more people with different backgrounds from our own. ⚪️
I made this when I read that the Guardian had updated their style guide and changed their language. Climate Change is now Climate Emergency, & the Climate Crisis and Climate Breakdown & Global Warming is now Global Heating. ⚪️
Language and how we frame messages around the climate crisis and plastic pollution is so important, not only in journalism, but in art, design, poetry, music and film. There are so many forms of creative communication & story telling, new & different ways to communicate this message to effect behavioural change. ⚪️
& We need them all and more.✊🏼
I feel like the best antidote to that despair is action. Be good to each other and be good to yourself, & find a solution that feels right and dive in 🖤✨
Let's talk about sustainability and concert venues. •
Think about the last time you attended a concert. Do you remember the venue having collection sites for recycling? for compost? What were their sustainability efforts? Have you ever thought about all the waste produced from one single concert? •
One company leading by example in their sustainability efforts is @livenation, the leading live entertainment company. Live Nation unveiled a Green Nation initiative with sustainability goals such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, removing single use plastics, and going zero waste in offices and venues. •
Next time you visit our local @ascend_amphitheater (operated by Live Nation) notice their efforts: Compostable cups, paper straws, compost and recycling stations; and a sustainability team that ensures all items are sorted correctly. •
It's a big deal when a company as big as Live Nation steps up and sees the importance in reducing the negative impact of live entertainment on the environment. •
I really love this quote from the Manager of Venue Sustainability with Live Nation from a Waste360 interview. "We feel like we are the largest live entertainment company in the world and with that comes both a huge responsibility and a huge opportunity to use that platform to not only try to move the needle from an environmental standpoint, and put on concerts that have zero impact on the environment, but also leverage the fact that we have got this incredible fan base. Hopefully, we can inspire them to not only participate when they are at the show but then also when they go home. That would be a dream, if our fans saw what we were doing and decided to adopt that behavior in their personal lives.”
When you visit a venue that goes above and beyond in their sustainability efforts, thank them. Let them know it does not go unnoticed. If you notice a venue does not have these efforts, encourage them to do so. Let them know what ideas you'd like them to implement to be more sustainable.

Our family is guilty of slipping from making #oatmilk everyday out of sheer laziness we’ve moved onto #soymilk 🤦🏼♀️ -
But no more, ITS BACK!
Hopefully for good this time. ✌️
We transition away from cows milk a couple of years ago, to try and make a more ethically conscious choice and to try and lower our carbon foot print anyway we could. ✌️
Although not a vegan family, we try and do what we can ☺️ I’m proud of my family for transitioning and especially @iamrobocop1985 As he loves a good cuppa ☕️😍
Looking for a plastic free body scrub? Why not try our creamy Peppermint & Poppy seed soap bar. Poppy seeds exfoliate the skin, rubbing dead cells and dirt away, whilst peppermint oil is both cooling and invigorating! 🍃🚿💚 .
Last year, the Costa Rican government announced its plan to eradicate all single-use plastics by 2021. “When we reach 200 years of independent life we will take Costa Rica forward and celebrate… that we’ve removed gasoline and diesel from our transportation,” the president said in his inauguration speech. 📸 : @clean.ocean.activists
Couldn’t be happier with how this piece is turning out! Frame was salvaged from a property my mom has in Northern British Columbia, glass work done by myself (note those amazing textures), decal by @addiejeanquilts. Hooks for coffee mugs are still to be added. It takes a village sometimes! But it’s always worth it!

Since I was a wee lad [10 or 11], I've had an endless love for #TankGirl . That's about the time the movie released, and considering my enamour with comics at that age... Well, after seeing it, I had a new goal.
There was a lot in it I was too young to understand, but, that's a reason my love stayed strong for it as I grew and matured. Every revisit showed me more nuances that I'd read over before.
And, that's what brought me to deciding make up a custom frame for this @lorazombie first edition. While the quality of the framing/matting she offers is great, it didn't seem appropriate for the piece. In fashion true to the character, all the materials are reclaimed/reused. The only thing I purchased specifically for this was 2 of the paints, as I hadn't used mine for so long.
The left side is a basic galvanized angle mount, torch-heated and bent to shape. It's also been crimped in the corners slightly to hold the piece.
The Ammo belt is a cheap plastic affair from an old cosplay of mine.
The cross is remnants of a window sill and door frame from past home renovations.
With this one down, I've got some ideas rolling around for some other prints I've got stored. Guess we'll see what happens.
Having fun slowly creating a sustainable little bohome in Charlotte 💕 we finally have some comprehensive recycling here, and we are happy that all of our plants survived the move! This orchid and our dragon tree are particularly happy underneath the new grow light☺️ I’m excited to get some new hanging plants for the patio too. Does anyone have suggestions for ones that thrive in shady areas? 🌱
