Hey photog friends! Do you ever feel frustrated lighting a reception space and feel like it's always a guessing game with flash? I've been there. I've found that one of the easiest setups, that saves batteries and provides consistent and flattering light, is to point a flash directly at the dance floor and diffuse it with a large translucent umbrella. Often I'll use this as a singular light source to start and add in a second flash to make the light more dynamic when necessary. Rarely will my flash on-camera be doing more than radio signaling my off-camera flash(s) to fire... for a couple of reasons, #1 CONSISTENCY in the output of the flash and the images (saves batteries and makes editing simpler), and #2 less distracting for guest and more unobtrusive. Also if it's ok with the DJ, it's really convenient to put the flash/stand/umbrella/sandbag near their speakers to minimize the floor space the stand takes up and make the flash/umbrella less obvious when the lights go down. Always throw a sandbag on the legs of the stand for security and safety, but also having it near the DJ's speakers will keep it out of the way and less hazardous for guest dancing. There are a million ways to light a dance floor, but I've found this set-up to be my easy go-to that again offers beautiful and consistent light, as well as saves battery power like whoa :). Does this make sense? Please feel free to ask any questions below! If you're struggling with flash, or other aspects of photography both creatively and technically, I offer one-on-one mentoring sessions and would love to meet with you! Happy Tuesday friends, and best wishes for this weekend's weddings! Happy Wedding Season! #PhototipswithMB
After the breakfast on our wedding day my girls got a little gift from me. Each one got a pair of earrings from @lilyandrosebyzetterberg Our theme for the wedding was Timeless Vintage so therefore the choice of Lily & Rose. I actually got the idea for the theme and dress code from Zetterberg Couture since they describe their style as Timless Vintage. I bought my wedding dress from them so the theme felt perfect. ☺️

Yesterday was magical, to say the least. Sara and Arthur were so much fun to work with and they had an intimate, romantic affair with gorgeous vintage touches coupled with the most beautiful fall weather!

These bridesmaids kept reminding me of Tangled (the Disney movie). Granted Tangled is mostly purple and yellow and these dresses were blue, but that’s what kept popping into my head! 🌿 #smithishowwedoit

I’m so in love with this photo of Kayla and her two sisters. Victoria & Paige, her sister in law.
Sister’s are so special and I love this photo even more because I too have one sister and acquired a sister in law a couple years ago. 💗
I’m so thankful for the two of my sisters and I know Kayla feels the same.
