Alec Issigonis never intended for his practical “working man’s car” to become a racing machine, but John Cooper had other plans for the Austin Mini. Cooper built up to 1275cc versions of the Mini, which brought power levels from 30 hp to over 70 hp. This image, from Revs Digital Library, shows Paddy Hopkirk taking advantage of the Mini Cooper’s capabilities during the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally. Thanks to its small dimensions, low-weight, and now more powerful engines, Mini Coopers won the Monte Carlo Rally in 1964, 1965, and 1967. #revsinstitute#revsdigitallibrary#racinghistory#montecarlo#rallycar#minicooper
