One afternoon in Jaipur was spent pretending to have dining reservations at a couple of palaces in order to have a nose around. Rambagh Palace, the former residence of a Maharaja and now a hotel, is like walking into a vintage storybook filled with peacocks, horse drawn carriages and handsome turbaned men. A bubble of opulence and romance that’s worlds away from the chaos of Jaipur’s crazy traffic and the struggle in the lanes of the old city.
Beautiful room at City Palace, Udaipur. I dragged myself from my sick bed to photograph this huge complex because I couldn’t bear to travel all the way down to Udaipur and only see the inside of a hotel room. The most challenging aspect aside from staying vertical and not hitting my head on all the low doorways was trying to ignore the heaving tourist crowds - go early if you come here.
