Beyond grateful to be a part of creating space for traditional teachings & practice. There is so much to learn! Just by simply trying to share the beauty of our culture I have met some of the most incredible people and engaged in discussions that continue to challenge and change my mind for the better. This day was pretty special to me for so many reasons. Can’t express in words how much love I have for all the people that contributed to the major success this day turned out to be. Give yourself a big hug for all the hard work you’re doing, you know who you are! #somanygoodpeople
Big love to @shmarrisa & @patrickmitsuing for the big push to get out and dance. What a humbling and empowering experience. ♥️ Mission: La Ronge Pow Wow 2019 ... see you there 😊
I always know when its #fall because thats when its #powwow time!
I asked permission to capture all of this and I post with the intention to further educate others about indigenous etiquette.
There is a reason why so few non natives are invited into the circle.
We are responsible for taking land, cutting the hair, language and lyfe out of our Native country.
Until we admit what our culture has done wrong, the sacred teachings can not return.
I therefore acknowledge my cultures past and thank our native brothers and sisters for serving in our military, protecting our water, growing food without pesticides and praying for the earth on a daily basis.
I also thank them for being tolerant of my cultures ignorance and sharing their culture one breath, one story, one song, one dance step at a time.
We can not erase history, but we sure as hell can take action to stop it from repeating itself again.
If you are in the presence of anyone indigenous, you must ask permission to photograph or film anything and in doing so, have a genuine interest and respectful intention.
Prayers are sacred and everything that is represented in these photos and videos is a prayer.
Look, listen, observe and pay respect to those who differ from you.
May this post restore the faith in each other and create a good Fall harvest.
